Karbonius 1x1 plain weave CSL aribox

I installed the Karbonius CSL airbox on my 2004 convertible over the weekend, and it went smoothly thanks to the wealth of info from forum threads on installation and parts—huge shoutout to the community!

The only hiccup was dropping the grommet for the Air Shut Off Valve hose, which fell onto the aluminum reinforcement plate. Retrieving it was a pain since I didn’t want to jack up the car at my condo to remove the plate. Also, the SMG pump made accessing the dipstick tube nut tricky, but a shallow 10mm socket, a knuckle, and some tape to hold the nut during reinstallation did the trick.

I’m running the Mullet Tune (thanks, Bry5on ), and I’m thrilled with the results. I even tested the tune with the stock airbox after installing the MAP and IAT sensors into my flashed DME. Big thanks to MpowerE36 for the CSL bootloader flash tool—flashing the MSS54HP via the OBD port was seamless and exactly what I needed.

I’ll share better pics once I add the MPower sticker.

Added a few more pictures, I hope this helps someone that is looking at the 1x1 plain weave. I struggled to find images of the 1x1 when I was looking.

My car is an 2004 so DME = MSS54HP from factory, I flashed it over the OBD port to MSS54HP CSL using MpowerE36 CSL bootloader flash tool.

Looks great. Wish I could find someone who has these in stock.

Damn, I might have ordered that had I known what a plain weave even was at the time, very nice.

Also I am likely going to the Mullet tune so many are talking about lately to compare to a dyno HTE tune, I have basically one low speed (<5mph) I am trying to resolve.

That airbox is gorgeous. This has always been something I wanted to do.

                  Thanks!

You gotta hear this thing in the flesh—it's like the car’s serenading you!

I’m absolutely smitten with my convertible E46 M3 (and yeah, I’m that weirdo who’s ride-or-die for the SMG). Sure, verts get a bad rap, like they’re the less cool cousin at the car meet. But slap a CSL airbox on this baby, and it’s belting out a tune so sexy it’ll make even the most die hard coupe fans rethink their life choices.

https://ind-distribution.com/ is the North American distributor for Karbonius, I do not think anyone stocks the 1x1 as most places I have seen list it as special order. Took just over 8 weeks for mine to arrive from parkautomotorsports.ca here in Canada.

Welcome to the vert M3 - CSL intake club! Haha driving my vert with the top down, along the coastline and hearing the intake wail is truly an experience. Enjoy it in good health!

                        Looks good OP!

You may want to consider cutting the plastic shroud piece in front of the airbox. That part tends to rub the front of the box damaging the clearcoat over time (engine moving, engine mounts wearing, etc). Just look at a CSL engine bay for reference.

I wish I could run that side but I have the flap motor in the way, I suppose I could hack it up and try but it looks like quite a bit would need to be cut away.

I don't like the way these shields look but I would think they would help direct more air from the fan down the sides of the motor. Is that the main purpose of these?
