    Getrag 420 teardown video

Came into my feed. Not much info out there on the 420g so figured I would drop this video here. The youtuber tried to swap bellhousings from a 540i v8 but the input shaft length was different. Pretty decent teardown info on the 420g.

Nice find! Someday I will do a similar operation on my old ZF320. Just need to swap the guts.

Uh...I think it was already known that a V8 420g is not compatible with an I6. But the video is still interesting and something different. Worth watching.

I wish someone would make internals for these as 10 years from now that might be something we could all benefit from when these transmissions (as solid as they may be) have issues and are harder to find.

Wasn't it horsepower freaks or something of the like in Australia that tried making syncros/gears at some point?

          In any event, cool video.

It was HPF. I thought the whole issue was that the transmission had to be assembled at operating temps.

He didn't tell/show the secrete steps how to remove the rear housing off, which is quite involved.

                Right, I forgot about that.
It unfortunate that that we can't just swap the bellhousing on the V8 units. I guess transmissions can have the same p/n and be different unless there is something I am missing.

For the better part of the week, while I was replacing the clutch and installing a Dinan 3.45 Differential, I took on the project to address leaks between the transmission casings, replace transmission seals, and change the oil. I got a few DM over Facebook from the E39 M5 owners group with...
