My local dealer (Otto's BMW) has always been cheaper than any online part source. I was informed by a friend of mine that worked there that the sales people were told not to bother me, which made me laugh.Originally posted by D-O View PostWe are not the Dealer's customers.
I don't really use them anymore, because FCP, but not all dealers are huge jerks.
... and the screen shot above is from a dealer about ~1 hour from me (Faulkner BMW, which is also where FCP sources their OE BMW parts).

I am going to guess that you have built a long standing relationship with the guys at Otto's. They know that you are extremely knowledgeable, and that you know exactly what you want and how to ask for it. They know you won't waste their time, and that when you buy something it stays bought.Originally posted by Obioban View Post

In any case, I agree that not all dealers are jerks, and that asking a premium price for whatever you sell does not make you a jerk either. There are some people who see value in what dealers offer at the price they offer it at, but we are generally not those people.Old, not obsolete.

I've built a good rapport with the parts team at my dealership—they're always friendly and provide excellent service.Originally posted by Obioban View Post

However, the sales staff completely overlook me. I could walk in there screaming, head ablaze, and they’d still ignore me. A few weeks ago, while checking out a new G87 M2, a salesperson approached, and I braced myself to say, “Just looking,” only for him to walk past me and lock the car without a word. My wife burst out laughing. I’ve concluded the sales team there is clueless. Sure, I’m in shorts and a t-shirt, but they’d notice my $10,000 watch, $1,000 sunglasses, and $2,400 phone if they paid any attention.
To be fair, back in 2018, I practically had to chase down a salesperson at a Land Rover dealership to place an order for our Range Rover Velar.
Not a big fan of the dealerships in my area.

Ignoring me is fully justified/desired. I have zero interest/desire for any BMWs of turbo/EPS era.

Here is how dealership parts pricing works...
Cost is what the dealer pays.
Warranty cost is what BMWNA pays for a factory warranty claim - which I believe is changing or has changed since I believe BMWNA is contracting warranty claims out?
MSRP which is what you see online.
Wholesale is usually MSRP minus some % or cost plus.
Then what the OP got...that's called grid, matrix or retail. That is a markup above and beyond MSRP. It is pure dealership profit.
So a $10 part at MSRP will be about $6 to $7 at cost. Retail will be $15 or whatever that dealer wants to charge.
There is a similar cost structure for labor, financing, and everything else the dealer sells. A massive markup on the markup. I saw salespeople sell $130 window tinting for $500.
