    Rear shock failure

While casually driving home this evening I went over a small depression in the road on the drivers side of the car. I felt the bump in the suspension and immediately heard a loud rattling sound. I was a few minutes from home so I drove the remaining way.
after pulling back the truck liner this is what I found.

for context this suspension is ST XTA. It’s been on the car about 1 year and seen roughly 4000 miles.
I did not perform the install as I don’t have the tools or time to do so.

I’ve included a picture of the passenger side. What are you guys seeing here? Other than the obvious? Install error? Part failure?

It is missing another large convex washer on the bottom of the shock mount.

Would that have prevented this from happening? What does the proper installation look like?

You need another convex washer placed against the shoulder of the shaft, on the bottom of the bushing, with the convex part facing the bushing (just like on top).

Buy another set of rear shock mounts, 2 washers, and you should be good to go!

The bad side doesn't have the marked metal washer, allowed the rubber bush passed through the tower hole. Installed forgot.

The failed side appears to have been torn apart…
Is it possible that it did have the larger washer on the backside but somehow tore through it?

That’s hard for me to believe since this suspension has never been tracked. Just a few canyon runs and occasional work commutes

No. It was an installer error

it's been a long time since i've seen a rear strut mount failure.

I sent pictures to KW automotive and they said it is the factory shock mount that is broken.

                  does that seem right?

do I need to just order a new set of rear mounts?

You also need a set of bottom plates - 33526762325 - to prevent this from happening again. Either the installer forgot to install them or they don't like reading instructions.

Are you planning on doing this yourself? If so, yes.

If not, have the shop handle it.

                      Don't overthink this

I sent pictures to the shop and they immediately took accountability.

They’re sending a flat bed to get the car and they’ll perform the work. Glad they’re owning the mistake.

With the lower washer installed it would never happened as the torn up bushing diameter is larger than the washer center hole which is the size of the threaded rod. Can you see it now?

                            Yeah that makes sense.
It must have just been hanging on by the bushing for the past year. Fortunately it failed near my house and not up the canyon
