    CSL Cam ID

I bought a pile of parts and it looks like the guy was building a CSL replica engine. He did not speak English so the language barrier was pretty tough but he was kind of cagey about the cams in the pile. I thought they were just some regular used cams but then it got me to thinking maybe they were CSL?

So I'm now trying to figure out if they are standard cams or CSL and I cannot find anything online that shows how to identify them.

Anyone know a for certain way to ID a CSL cam?

So I don't do a lot with cam swaps or anything like that, pretty much everything I work on has stock cams. So in the process of ID'ing these I noticed that the cams have the same BMW PN# cast into them for both the intake and exhaust. I assume that BMW casts the cores and then grinds them specific to Int or Exh and then they also add an oil band in one cam journal depending on which cam it is too. Maybe thats all common knowledge, but for me its something new and quite interesting.

Yes, the early Schrick cams were also made from BMW cast blanks.

That ebay listing are normal cams… Scammy…

The part number has 3 digits and is on the front of the cam.
CSL cams say 041 and 043, this goes for all cams and is just the ending digits of the full part number in the catalog.

Bottom number is the production date, week 37 2003.

Welp, looks like just standard cams, 223 & 225 on the cams.

Next question is what is the difference between the pre (194 & 195) 04/03 cams and post (223 & 225)?

The oil valve inside the cam, I am not sure what the point of the valve is, I never really understood.

I think the fender and rocker trim are from another car that was sun faded but had a bra on it. Look at the front by the turn signal and you can see its darker and matches the other body panels. Either way its a really strange color change, lol.

Those SSR GT3s are a blast from the past.

Looking at the pile of parts, this is something between a CSL build, hoarding random parts and a full restoration lol.
