Am I mad for wanting to switch back to halogen tail lights?

From a functional standpoint, people driving behind you, especially the ones not fully paying attention, will probably react slightly quicker to seeing those bright LEDs (even more so with the outer ring mod) versus the weak bulbs. For a track car, sure, pre-LCI tails.

curious, was it fixed? or you opted for a replacement? im wondering if someone who is decent with soldering can repair/replace any burnt out leds

I know you asked someone else, but I will just add my .02 cents and say that I believe several years ago (maybe on the old forum), there were a few people that DIY fixed them. I do remember it seemed like it was more headache than it was worth LOL.

In my case, the LED's were fine, it was something in the main board. I ended up buying a cheap tail light and swapping the LED/board into my housing/reflector which was in much better cosmetic shape. A real pain cutting open the housing. At the time a new unit was like $250. I just saw the astronomical price for them now... so maybe repair is the best option.

Yea, I miss those days. The prices now just don't seem worth buying them new now. And people don't seem to sell their used ones anymore. It is going to be like the OE Euro/CSL header situation, haha.

It's honestly the only thing that would ever make me consider selling this car. I am 100% happy with how it drives, the lack of tech features, and even doing repairs myself, but when the parts become prohibitively expensive it no longer becomes practical to own the car and daily drive it.

I go back and forth on it. I gave some aftermarket LED lights and to me they look fine. There’s a big DEPO marking on them but otherwise they really do look just like stock.

My car had a weird flickering/possible grounding issue that also completely went away when I switched to these lights. I know that’s not exactly scientific but it solved a problem for me.

Exactly, and I have thought about this very thing as of late. It is nice knowing that these cars are highly regarded now, but if it comes to " I am spending a shit ton of money" for something like floor mats or weatherstripping, I don't think I will keep it. It is not worth the financial losses.

Nice. If they work and look good, that is a win-win.

That reminds me of when I used to want angel eyes so bad, and I finally got some and they flickered and had a mind of their own. I installed them correctly and then reinstalled them again to double check. They sometimes would just stay on even when my car was completely shut down LOL. Got rid of them and never looked back.
