Lower radiator fan shroud mounting bolts

My car's shroud has 2 mounting bolts near the bottom of the shroud that are impossible to reach without jacking up the car and getting underneath. But some videos I saw of people removing the fan shroud only show them removing the uppoer mounting bolts. Was the design changed over the years where the lower part of the shroud now sits in a slot, or are these guys just leaving off the lower bolts?

The shroud was never revised or superseded - it uses both the slot and four torx-head self-tapping screws for mounting.

Those people are either missing screws or omitted that part from their video.

you can reach the bottom one on the intake side by removing the intake. But to reach the bottom one on the passenger side, you do need to jack up that side and remove the front splash pan.

Right, I did get the driver's side off that way and originally thought the shroud was stuck on something because it seemed ridiculous to need to jack up the car and remove the undertray to get to that last screw just to remove the fan.

I've owned mine since 2011 as well as an E46 323i since 2003. These cars are generally pretty easy to work on, with a few exceptions. No nightmares yet, like the wheel bearings or ball joints on my Subaru. Although my driver's door is stuck closed so that will be interesting.

Drivers door stuck closed sounds like a nightmare to me
