EWS Delete + New Key issues

    hey guys,

Had a question, not sure if anyone has any insights...

I purchased a new key from the BMW dealership but totally forgot i already assigned a 3rd party key to the next EWS/key slot. BMW assigned the key to the same slot, and it obviously won't work, as the 3rd party key was assigned there first.

My work around is an EWS delete - however after using Martyn's tool, with the ews delete box checked, the car still won't start with the new BMW key. Is there something I'm missing? ...if ews is deleted, it shouldn't matter that the key is assigned to the wrong slot, right?

I've re-read the new bin, and the EWS delete box is checked off.

    Any insights?

If EWS is deleted on the DME, to verify it isn't an EWS box issue. You can remove the EWS module, once it is removed there will be two large female spades in it's connector. Grab a 30 or 20 amp spare fuse from the fusebox. Put it in there, now when you go to crank with the key it will directly put the power to the starter without the box acting as a middleman waiting on certain parameters to enable the relay in it. If it's SMG you can literally start the car in gear, so be careful with that.

If it starts up and runs definitely some EWS issue still is present that is making the EWS box unhappy or an issue with the EWS module itself.

If you are simply just trying to be able to use the new key, I would use an AK90 tool to just reassign the new key to a different slot.

i've tried that. I've purchased 2 different ak90s from two different vendors - however neither of them would read the EWS chip (they would read the keys, thats how i realized both keys were setup to the same slot). After some research, I came to the conculsion that both were replica AK90 machines and woouldn't read the chips. if you had a link to purchase a working ak90 that would be amazing.

I asked for suggestions in this post... but nobody had any suggestions 😢. https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/m...a-working-ak90

            "Pin No Touch" Error?
Here is my post on this before I was banned for life. At least they didn't delete my posts
Edited: 6/14/2022, added this:Note1: Turn the EWS board so the connector facing up (the chip small dot is now on the right side), the chip pins should be mirror image of the socket, i.e. pin6 Black should be on the LH side of the chip and not the RH side as on the socket There had been a lot...

Bypassing the EWS this way will burn the ignition key switch soon, as the starter will pull more than 10A directly through the switch instead of the relay in EWS.
