    Manifold gaskets

    Hey Fellas

Im doing headers (swapping in SSV1 from OEM on the car I just bought). Are the 6 new gaskets needed or can I just resuse the metal ones on the head? If they are needed, is OEM whats recommended or cheaper Elring ($60 vs $180 for 6)

I had both elring and oe in hand at one point and noticed 0 difference. I’ve used elring twice so far and no issues to report

Do you even getting new ones or reusing the old since they are all metal?

I’d recommend getting new ones, if only to not do that job twice because now you have an exhaust leak. One side of the gasket is a waffle texture and creates a seal so there’s that

This is one of those parts that’s simply worth replacing with each header install. The header install itself is time consuming, so you might as well use new seals to reduce the chances of leaking and having to go back in to address it. Out of four aftermarket header installs, I think I reused the seals once with OE Euro headers and had a small leak.

Unless you recently did the job and replaced gaskets and are just changing header design, I'd absolutely replace them. It's not what I'd list as an enjoyable job to do again just for the heck of it

Just like the head gasket and VANOS gasket, Elring supplies these to BMW.

If you properly torque and crush the gasket, they will not be reusable as parts of the soft side will stick to the flanges on the manifold.
