Some kind of a "burn" smell during hard acceleration

I noticed whenever I push it hard between 5-8K there is a distinct "burn" smell. It doesn't smell like oil burning as that has its own smell. Perhaps running rich? I don't smell anything driving around normally or semi-spirited. Old O2 sensors? Any thoughts?

no not clutch, I just changed it 2 months ago. Let's say you are in 2nd under a bridge, you step on it in that higher RPM range, no gear change.

Could it be an electrical burning smell

Is oil leaking from the back corner of the valve cover gasket and/or the exhaust cam sensor - and onto the exhaust?

you will see stains on the header/manifold, most visible from beneath. You may or may not have drips under the car when parked

(There could be coincidence in when it happens)

in this case it would be burning oil smell, I will check, but I don't think its that distinct smell, its more of a you punch it hard in the upper rpm range and suddenly you smell it.

Do a leak down. Could be poorly seating exh valves.

It smells a little different when it burns "cleanly." One or two drops of oil on a red hot header primary will burn more quickly and completely than oil leak buildup burning slowly off of a hot engine.

My e36 M3 had a rear corner vc gasket leak that would burn off of the header, and I could only smell it immediately after a hard pull.
