Anyone have the Rogue Engineering E46 M3 Carbon CSL trunk lid or Any Reviews

Curious to see if anyone has bought the Rogue Engineering E46 M3 Carbon CSL trunk lid and fitted the trunk lid to their car? Anyone know of any reviews?

Seems pretty good considering the advertised weight of 6.75 lbs. which seems like the lightest trunk on the market. Seems lighter than the Karbonius CSL trunk lid by almost 4 lbs. I was hoping to get some thoughts or reviews of trunk lid to make a decision on either the RE or Karbonius version of the trunk.

It is very high quality based on other parts I've seen the same place make. May or may not be one continuous piece of carbon or may have a mold split line. Not a big deal, a split line can be easily sanded down.

I'm interested in this too. I have a GENUINE CSL trunk. In the rare event someone ever wants to trade their Rogue CSL trunk for an authentic one, I'm your man. (sorry to hijack)

I have a mile end composite one not painted yet I could trade. They only made two yet and it is in fiberglass.

Good offer. The CF of the Rogue is what appeals to me though. Maybe someone down the line wants to trade CF for OEM..

You think the weight is really as advertised at 6.75 lbs. The main purpose is weight reduction and it seems that this RE version is lighter than the Karbonius version.

The guy who use make all the CF for the PTG ALMS bmw race car produces it for rogue. His work is S Tier, and if I were getting something for our car would pick that before Karbonious, or Miles End. Really high quality work and you’re getting the best CF trunk on the market in my opinion.

I could see a trunk being 6.75lbs. Probably not a candidate to put a high downforce wing on it. I think my trunk is about 10lbs but I added a significant amount of reinforcement for the rear wing.

Biggest difference could be in how much of the inner skin is included. There is not as much of a need to design it with strength since the trunk is not structural or subject to aero stresses unlike a hood (found that out the hard way).

Or assuming each part is the same then the weight difference could be in layup and materials. Doesn't matter if its infused or prepreg - it will achieve similar resin:fiber ratios. Might be a 1% to 2% difference? Density of tows (3k, 6k, 12k), woven vs stitched, and even the weave pattern can all affect weight. A 1x1 will have a higher resin content than a 2x2. A spread tow fabric will typically be around 35% resin content vs regular woven cloths at 40% - spread tow will be a little lighter.

But this shop makes good stuff. I repair parts made by this shop for a local race team that likes to crash. I'm shocked at how well the parts hold up.

looks like they have a reinforced version for wings. Wonder how much that adds. Prob would still come under the regular Karb trunk, no?

Yes...I have the "Rogue" trunk and to be clear the trunk is made by Precision Glass & Composites Inc who is most notably recognized as the composite manufacturer for Prototype Technology Group of BMW NA from the mid-90s. I personally picked up the trunk from their shop in Dawsonville, GA which is a bit north of Atlanta, GA. The trunk is indeed extremely lightweight (under 7lbs) for the version I chose ie. street trunk without wing reinforcements. I had the opportunity to talk to the guys for a bit and they have a pretty cool story for being such a small shop.

I do have some pictures of the trunk installed which I have shared in other threads.

                        Positives:
                        - Extremely Lightweight (Results may vary depending on options)
                        - Excellent construction
                        - Excellent fitment (Time consuming to get fitment perfect)
                        - Street version has holes cut
                        - **Option for wing support unlike other vendor options
                        - Available for pickup in the ATL area
                        - Availability is around 4-6 weeks as its made to order

                        Negatives:
                        - A lot of tiny holes in the resin which was a bit of a PITA during painting (Results may vary)
                        - Split mold line above the rear tail light holes on each side (Zoom in on the 1st photo and you can see the diagonal line on each side)
                        - Takes time to make adjustments for the trunk to fit perfectly. (This was very time consuming!)
**Need to remove 1 shock trunk due to the weight** - This should be expected for such a lightweight piece compared to the stock trunk.
                        - Price is up there if you missed out on the intro pricing

Makes sense. This helpful and helps reinforce what I was thinking about the trunklid, thank you.

I am not going to be adding a wing, so I wouldn't need reinforcement for the wing. I am looking for weight reduction as I am building lightweight street car. Every pound reduced sorta matters compared to cost and finish. My concern was price, fitment, and overall appearance. There are sometimes Karbonius CSL trunk lid that pop up in classified sections for a few hundred off MSRP, they become tempting. The Rogue trunk lids seem super rare so odds are it will need to be purchased as new.

In terms of construction, from the reviews being posted, the Rogue trunk lid seems to be well made.

WOW, first let me say THANK YOU for posting this.

This is the first actual verification of the trunk lid actually being 7lbs or less and not just reading it on a website or someone saying it feels light.

This will be going on a street car so I will need to run the lighting, wiring, license plate brackets, emblems, etc. Any issues there?

I also heard about having a lot of tiny holes in the resin which can be a PITA during painting. I assume this will require a ton of prep to sand and fill to avoid issues with paint? Did the bodyshop get upset or charge extra to paint and install?

Also, does having one shock vs two shocks effect the trunk lid opening or closing by having the shock force applied only to one side? You think any risk of misalignment over time having force applied on one side only?

Thanks again for the insight on this.
