I just wanted to do a quick post about diagnosing an issue with my convertible top where the tonneau cover would raise to the 90 degree position but the top itself would not move after that and the red error light would flash by the button. Years ago I had a similar issue and I fixed it by finding some broken wires in the main bend above the driver's head position in the wiring harness. This time I looked in that spot again and I did find additional cracking insulation but the wires all seemed intact. After repairing the wires, I still had the same failure mode. I could manually open or close the roof but I never could get farther then having the tonneau cover raising before an error would stop the process.
I ran PA Soft and got a rainbow of errors on the CVM unit and before digging around in the wiring diagram to find the associated wires I decided to try one last place to look for broken wiring. In the rear behind the driver's side passenger seat there is one other tight bend on the wiring harness that you can get to if you remove a metal protection plate. After removing the plate, cutting the wire ties and the protective sheathing I finally found one wire that was broken. There was an additional couple of wires with cracking insulation close by so the age of the car must be taking it's toll on the wires causing them to crack and corrode. I couldn't even solder to the broken wire due to corrosion, I had to cut out an inch or so from the harness and solder a new section in. After that the top works great, just wanted to put this out there so anyone searching for convertible top issues checks both locations for broken wires before doing any other troubleshooting, pretty common failure mode.
