DIS Working Copy

Hi all,


Need some help with DIS. I paid $50 for the software, but it only worked once before it started freezing. I’ve sunk hours into troubleshooting via three different laptops with various OS installs (XP/Win7, 32 & 64-bit), but nothing works. Now it looks like my activation code has been deactivated.

Does anyone have a lead on a more reliable DIS download? I’m trying to rule out a hardware fault, and my ISTA contact is coming up empty. Any help is appreciated!

I probably have a workable install somewhere. What are you trying to diagnose though? Inpa/tool32 should be able to do everything DIS can and then some

For some reason that link isnt working on here, but I was able to access to site. I got a woking copy of DIS from there years back.

Works fine but is still a pain in the ass, if I had to do it over again I would get an ICOM/ISTA for the vanos test.

That's the only reason I needed it, but I guess INPA will do a vanos test as well, never tried it myself.

Actually that might be something we legitimately need DIS /ISTA for. Probably possible to write a script that uses some combination of tool32 commands to do the same thing (since that is essentially what DIS does). But I've still yet to figure out how to actually figure out how those DIS / ISTA scripts are encoded

Easy way to get those old DIS VM's to actually work is to have a slow laptop with a mechanical hard drive, not a modern solid state.
It seems some kind of race condition happens shortly after bootup if the disk is too fast.

I can't say if this is why my version worked or not, but I loaded onto a shitty pawn shop laptop, with a traditional HDD, low memory and just enough space to install the program.

Mario at pss autosoft had a great set of instructions, its one thing to simply install the program but actually connecting to a vehicle was the most difficult part.

It looks like you can still contact him on FB as his website seems to be down.

bmwfnatic, thanks for the tip! I’ve only been using SSDs laptops, so I just picked up an Asus Eee PC to make sure I have a Windows XP machine with an HDD!!

Alternatively you can get ISTA download links from member shawnsheridan on e90post. I use it on newer cars but IIRC it has all of the same functionalities as DIS for the E46 and is a lot quicker and easier to setup.

Is there a way to get ISTA to do a vanos test without an ICOM cable to your knowledge?
