Have you seen OEM parts prices lately?

I was looking for a PS hose and found this:

$200 for an OEM PS hose. That is insane.
The tariffs can't add that much to the cost of an OEM hose.

At least it's still available to purchase!

I haven’t looked at newer models, but there’s been so much of this happening I wonder if BMW increased their prices to FCP to support the dealer network?

or is it just the continued enshitification of everything?

War, supply chain disruptions, gas prices, inflation, tariffs...lots of things upending the market.

I have seen prices skyrocket since COVID, I think it's more than war and tariffs.

I think...manufacturers raised prices and now they are slow to lower them. We need a recession to get the sickness out of the economy and then get back to some predictability. The macro-economics are so volatile and irrational which is the tell-tale sign of a bubble. The FED keeps blowing into the bubble.

This isn't political left vs right. Look at M2 money, interest rates, U6 unemployment, and FED repo market. Then look at the recent bankruptcies, commercial real estate valuations and then link that to private equity funds severely limiting redemptions.

Remember that FCP adds on top of pricing to cover that lifetime warranty. The OEM part can be found for cheaper elsewhere, like https://bmw.oempartsonline.com/ ~$165 for that hose. High failure parts like hoses, bearings and brakes etc. get marked up a bit more to cover the potential that they will be sent back for warranty.

Yes there have been threads on many items going up by large amounts in short periods of time. For those of us on a tighter budget it is not an ideal time

I bought that hose in June of 2024, one of the first things I did to my car. Jesus.

for the last couple years, even parts I’m replacing because they’re worn out I put in a box and keep. At some point we’re no longer replacing, but trying to refurbish anything we can find.

I bought mine in 2019 or 2020 it was about that price (from FCP). How to you go from $35 to $200 in 6 years?

In dealer speak that is called matrix, grid or retail pricing. A mark up over MSRP. Dealers do it on everything they sell. Labor, cars, warranties, financing interest rates....

If this website will fulfill the order, they have it for $65 - https://www.uspmotorsports.com/produ...cSajFAOB_ahtIY 9o_V1T-Xck_OlKrUn-HraWW

I've avoided buying URO parts, but for this PS hose, it might be worth a shot.
