Yeah I kept trying both positions on the amazon cable, didn't seem to make much of a difference. The bimmergeeks cable comes with a double K-line adapter so I will try that when it comes in.

Epic suggested finding a windows laptop, and that the macbook with a windows partition may be the issue. If I remember in the past, I had gotten reads off E46 with my macbook, but I'll try and dig up an old windows laptop from somewhere and test with that.

Have an update, the race car fired up immediately with the Epic race DME. So it was the EWS delete in the DME causing the issue. Going to try and reinstall software and test out reconnecting with the cable Epic sent as well as the bimmergeeks one.

With this setup, you have the ignition switch wired directly to the starter solenoid? I suggest to add a 10A relay in between.

The harness was done professionally, I'm actually not sure about the details. I had him remove the EWS module for weight and simplicity.

If you didn't see any relay attached to the new harness, then it was bypassed with direct wiring from switch to the starter. This high inductive current will pit the switch contacts soon.
