    Stock Amplifier Replacement

My stereo has been cutting out for awhile now. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it plays but it's very rough and barely comes through. Usually it would stop working if I turned it off and start working again after the car sat for awhile. Now it's cutting out even where it used to work until I turned it off.

I'm guessing the amp is shot. I do not have the Harmon Kardon option. I just want an easy plug and play replacement-so do I need the stock amp or will the HK work too?

Also, if anyone has other suggestions as to what the problem is, much appreciated.

Is this a Nav or non-Nav car?

Either the amp in the trunk is faulty or the CD53 headunit.

Used stock amps should be pretty cheap. In this thread, they replaced the amp to fix their audio issue - https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...ss-CD-No-Sound!

Thanks mate! So, I need the standard business amp. Mine does still produce sound unlike the one in that thread though, it's just all cracked up. Might as well try a $20 used ebay replacement before I look into the headunit anyway.

Whereabouts in CT are you? I have an amp that I removed from my ‘04 cabrio-you want it, it’s yours for free

Thanks guys, I found a cheap one that's already on the way, but I'll keep yall in mind if it doesn't work!

In Litchfield county for the record, if anyone around makes it out to Lime Rock Park hit me up. Was just there for the Trans-Am races and got to see a wonderful race-prepped e46 M3. It sounded better than the GT3s.
