E46 M3 Exhaust Advice - Megan Headers + OEM Section 1 Dual Resonators + Stock Muffler

Hey everyone I have a 2001 E46 M3 with Megan Racing catless headers. I recently installed a second OEM resonator in Section 1 to help reduce rasp. The rest of the exhaust is currently stock, including the OEM muffler.

I have yet to start the car because I’m currently doing the maintenance right now, im trying to find the ideal setup. I’m looking for an exotic S54 sound with less rasp while still keeping some volume while also being able to hear the downshifts.

For those of you who have run a similar setup, what muffler or additional exhaust components would you recommend? I’m mainly looking for an exotic tone that really comes alive at high RPM without excessive rasp. Sound clips of similar setups would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I run a DIXIS no drone.

euro headers > euro cats > stock sec 2 > Dixis

SS Sport would be good too, it’s what I want to switch to and then hang the Dixis on the wall.

Just got my E46 M3 and I am on the same boat and looking for a setup that will reduce/eliminate the rasp if possible. When people said euro cats, does it mean euro cats in Section1? What about the resonators?

SS sport is a beautiful piece, good size good weight good volume, but not very special or distinct and it does drone pretty good.

Say goodbye to the resonators, but the cats do cut down a bit on rasp. It's a great sound. I don't think the goal should be to eliminate rasp competely, but that's my opinion.

Hey, I’m running a similar setup. Megan headers, but I have the EL Sunbeam dual res section 1. Literally no rasp, a smooth, refined tone. I got OEM sec 2 and 3, so I can still hear the induction noise. Perfect setup for me for now at least!
