    Exhaust Resonance around 2800rpms

I recently changed up the exhaust set up and now have full aftermarket exhaust (Fabspeed headers, CPI/Bimmerworld Section 1 rasp pipe, section 2 SuperSprint resonated xpipe, Eisenmann Race Mufflers). I took a bit of a gamble with a different manufacturer for each part (PO installed the Fabspeed headers) and am really liking the sound.

I didn’t notice it at first but after a few hundred miles on the new exhaust, I’m noticing a minor yet noticeable resonance that seems to be originating from the section 1 area (below the shifter on the center console). It occurs when the exhaust is fully warmed up and the exhaust doesn’t appear to have any issues with making contact with heat shielding. It occurs at around 2800 rpms and is very brief. I read about this occurring with aftermarket headers and being translated down the exhaust pieces. It’s minor enough that I can let it go but curious if there is a solution.

    Thanks!

I have some similar components - CPI RTX, SS Res x-pipe, and SS Sport, but with stock headers.

My drone is so limited that I don't notice it. But there have been times, with windows up, right at that same RPM range, where I have detected the slightest hint of it. I think it's mostly when it's cold out and the windows are up. Very possible yours is worse than mine with the eisenmann race exhaust.

Thanks for the response! Yes, if anything the Fabspeed long tube headers and cat-less set up may be accentuating the resonance. It doesn't sound like heat shield rattle but also resonates through the chassis (very briefly right at around 2800rpms).

I guess if I were you and I wanted to try and address the drone, I'd put cats in sect 1 and go from there.

IIRC (I haven't driven my E46 in a couple years) 2800 RPM is the peak drone/resonance point in the powerband when you're decatted. Some HJS cats as suggested above might help.
