Don’t Have INPA Currently - Taking M3 To Shop (What do you think this is?)

See attached pic for under my oil cap. Note: There WASN’T any of the white/milky residue on the oil dipstick. At most, car was probably driven ~20 miles total from when I last started it up. Basic OBD reader is throwing the following codes: P0365 and P0017

Getting sputtering or hesitation on start probably 1/2 the time. If I clear the codes, engine revs fine/no ticking.

    Thanks!

Generally that is a symptom of a bad HG, or coolant/oil are mixing in another way.

I would be draining the oil and checking for water and/or compression/leakdown tests.

Its one thing to have a bit of condensation in the oil, maybe it sat a while or something, but that combined with the engine running poorly you may have a problem unfortunately.

Also, at a glance it looks like you have some type of camshaft error code, it's entirely possible you may just have a bad cam sensor and some condensation in the oil.

Any legit shop should know what to do.

Check the PCV. It's probably just condensation. Not sure if that is related to the codes.

Have you actually taken it on a good, long drive? Sitting combined with short drives without full actual warm up cycles will sometimes not allow all of the condensated water in the oil to be boiled out of the engine. That water will condense on the oil cap and inside of the valve cover, giving the appearance of milky foamy residue. As long as all of the oil doesn't look like that, it's of no concern to me.

Take a quick look into your coolant reservoir, if there's not a film of oil floating on top, it's more likely something minor.

My cap has looked similar before, just not quite that milky.

It could be condensation from short drives. Like others said, check coolant tank, if there’s no milk, then go drive it like a teenager for an hour.
              Just some old shitty cars.

The combination of these codes can be challenging bug to kill. My prediction that a new EX cam sensor won't fix it. Could be the vanos solenoid electrical issue.

On the mayo, if engine was not running to operating temp then this is normal from condensation, bad for engine.
