Windshield washer pump won’t sit flush

Purchased a continental windshield washer pump and it came with its owner gasket (filter less). The new pump is identical to the old one (measured with caliper) however the gasket design is different. The gasket being more robust causes the pump to pop out of the reservoir, even with the locking tab. Has anyone dealt with and resolved this issue?

If the rubber seal is shorter than the pump snout then the squeeze force is equal on both sides, above and below the tank housing, and should not push the pump off the seal. Try again but use brake grease or soap to lube the seal inner OD and on the pump snout.

I just recently replaced both of my washer pumps. Both pumps use different grommets I would make sure you’re using OEM grommets which lock into place. The pump should sit pretty easily with a little pressure. Pictures from your project would help with diagnosis…

Appreciate the replies. Took the advice here. Lubricated the grommet and got it to “seat” using a clamp. Thanks.
