M3 S54B32 Rocker Stuck Cylinder 6 Exhaust Cam 8

hey guys,

I’ve been struggling for about a week now trying to do my valve adjustments, Cylinder 6 Exhaust Cam 8 I first managed to slide across with a budge halfway and since it has been completely stuck.

it moves up and down with the rocker cam and is the only one to do so and does not slide across. not sure if I’ve slid it into to heavy oil varnish.

car previous hasn’t been used for years, I bought it as have been doing all the maintenance

i’m ready to throw rocks in it

ive tried:

Sliding with screwdrivers

tapping with hammer(with centre taps)

heat gun

WD-40, Oil, Engine flush, brake cleaner, brushes

im genuinely losing my mind

Carb Cleaner

Followed by prying gently back and forth.

Take care to not knick the follower shaft or bend the "teeth" on the cam sensor wheel (seen it multiple times).

I'll give it a go tomorrow, there is such little space to work with and prying on anything if its the cams it sits inbetween the "teeth" and slides on the cam itself

I would remove the cam trigger wheel to give more space to work on it. Its a large allen head bolt holding it onto the camshaft.

I had a similar problem on my first S54, it took a lot of carb cleaner and setting the engine on fire a couple times with a mini torch but I eventually got it to move.

I presume that involves remove the Vanoss and engine timing?

im basically at the point of shoot chemicals and pry which is useless or start taking the Vanoss out

Scratch that I found what you mean. I’ll give that one a go too, I’ll have to invest in a tiny blow torch, I’ve tried a heat gun but not much luck.

Ive bought carb cleaner and WD40 penetrant and some small cleaning tools but no luck

I’m presuming you heated the back of it with the small torch?

You will have to counter hold the cam shaft (large hex section closer on the cam shaft) to apply enough torque to remove the bolt.

I would try to soak a paper towel with carb cleaner and drape it on the affected rocker shaft and then cover that with plastic wrap and let it sit overnight to really let the chemical work.

Once the cam trigger wheel is out of the way I would use a block of wood and a pry bar to try to get the rocker to move back to its home.

I presume this is what you mean, ratchet on the socket and spanner on the hex area.
Even this with a blow torch she’s not moving, I just don’t wanna snap anything😂

I’ll attempted the carb soaked towel once I’ve given up with it

Scrap that. Laying across the engine did it.

Cam gear ring is off, gonna attempt what tips you’ve given me.

This is what we’ve got so far. Trying to get at it with a small wire brush to clean the shite off with some carb cleaner

i don’t have much room/tools for prying as they don’t fit

Officially the rocker is back in and shims are to spec.
