I didn't know there was another viable (muck less better) option available when I ordered. I went with what I thought was the best product available. If the Dynavin is the better product I'll be happy to return everything to Avin just to prove a point. Be right back, going to the google machine...

This was very helpful, thank you. Much more helpful than anything Avin has provided. Still, the connections are slightly different for the steering wheel controls on the Avin so I am still unsure where to mate the third connection to. Maybe there is no third connection? Maybe I will power it up as is and see what happens.

Saw some questions floating here that weren't answered that I'm having issues with currently as well. 1) Wireless & wired Apple Carplay are finicky and disconnect randomly. Will a new dongle fix this? Also, would any wireless Carplay dongle work or do I have to get it from Avin. 2) My oil temp is no longer showing on iBus after doing the software upgrade. How do I get that back on my iBus app? 3) Where are you guys tucking your dongle to make it as out of the way as possible?

Yeah that blue cable from the link was the GPS hookup for me, and that was in the trunk. There were a bunch of extras with mine (Avant 3) that I didn't end up plugging in, IIRC some of the plugs on the back of the unit were left unused. Have you tried just turning the car on and seeing what happens? If your radio/GPS/audio all work, you can basically skip the rest.

Dynavin comes with this… https://dynavinnorthamerica.com/coll...t=878232698893 … it is sold separately. Is there something comparable on the Avin site perhaps? I twice had to double back and purchase this “adapter cable.”

Thank you for that. My factory nav has three connections. Two separate plastic connections (that appear to match the connections on the head unit) and the GPS antenna itself. The antenna gets moved to the front, so we know that's out. The remaining two plugs connected to my GPS system are much smaller than the fittings I have left. So something isn't making sense. If only the good people at Avin would just send me a schematic as opposed to directing me to YouTube videos that don't apply to my situation...

Thanks guys. I've reviewed every video I could find on the web. I also checked out those docs on post #74 previously. None answer my specific questions re: dongles and stuff. My primary question related to install is route to the trunk. Is it fair to assume that following the factory loom to the trunk is the most efficient way to get back there? I just had an interesting conversation with a forum member and that seems to be the case...

If nothing else youtube is littered with DIYs such as this one that looks good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o5Hi0-yXIc

At post #74 I included the Dynavin install instructions from back in the day, which I now know are the same as their new stuff. My installer took all of no time for the upgrade. My car had NavHK and I can't imagine the Avin process is much different. You should have a look at that and the links in the 23 pages worth of instructions.

Other than that I've got nothing. Sorry. Maybe others have something more specific.

My car has nav and HK. I am in the process of installing an Avin 4 head unit but I find myself at a loss because I’m not sure how to actually go about the install/wiring. I think I have a general sense of how the wires are supposed to be run to the trunk, but I’d like to get confirmation that my thought process is sound before I start tearing in. I still have a few unanswered questions, however.

Here’s the rub – I have received zero technical support from Avin thus far. For four weeks I’ve been trying to gain access to the literature on their website. I don’t know if they are having server/technical issues or other issues but for whatever reason I can’t gain access to their library. And they aren’t really doing much to change the situation it would seem. So at this point their assistance seems to be worth sweet fuck all to me and I need to look elsewhere.

I was hoping there is someone out there who has performed the install (with nav) who would be willing to have a phone conversation with me. I really don’t want to delay the install process and longer. I just want to make sure I am on the correct path before tearing in. I would appreciate any definitive guidance anyone might care to share. Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    t
