Avin Avant 4 Headunit users?

Do they have wireless CarPlay? Have they gotten rid of the big, fisher price looking buttons yet?

Those two things have always been the thing that makes dynavin a no go for me.

Can't unsee the fisher price buttons, looks like it'll be AVIN for me when I eventually get to this mod...

Yes. Back in the day BavSound used to do one for the ski-pass, which came with its own mono amp. Rumor has it (and I believe) it was a Rockford model. There were rumors about who made the woofer that I've long since forgotten. I think it was designed as a free air, but my guys didn't like that so they put it in a small 1' cubed enclosure. I also went with the BavSound cabin speakers (still readily available) and a Hertz cabin amp off the Dynavin (the old D99 unit). Last year I upgraded to the N7Pro. All sounds great. I have no idea how it would sound in a coupe but I think the subs fit under the rear deck. BavSound may even still make those, IDK. Top up it's a concert (too much, actually), but I designed the setup for top down motoring. It fits the bill without falling down the rabbit hole.

The attached is from my files on the sub, which may give you some ideas if you want to replicate the setup.

UPDATE: That isn't very helpful... try the attached "Amp Tuning" document... it's really the installation instructions downloaded from their site... the VIMEO link still works

So you have an aftermarket sub? I’m stoked as I am going to use a small footprint of an amp to power the subs. The amp fits inside the cubbyhole where cd changer is normally mounted.

That’s the same here… my kids take over the stereo with BT anyway, and the DSP let’s me tune that to my satisfaction… the sub was by far the most massive upgrade IMO, but I’m in a convertible.

I was in the same boat. I wanted 4v pre-outs, oen look, reliable, dsp so that’s why I went with N7 pro. Wireless CarPlay is cool but isn’t a requirement for me since I can run a USB port to the back of the center console as my phone is usually sitting anyway.

I will have to take a pic of mine as from I recall the N7 pro has anti-glare capacitive screen.

I’m looking forward to integrating my HK sub box with CDT audio subs to the bavsound s676 hi fi system speaker upgrade.

Wireless carplay is the only reason I moved off stock/bluebus. It's the only thing I care about.

Well, that, and my Avin based stereo project let me take ~50 lbs out of the car vs stock :P

My bad… I don’t use CarPlay so I didn’t realize it wasn’t wireless. Sound is great. Buttons don’t bother me as I’m mostly using the steering wheel. We’ll see how reliable it is. I don’t quite understand the complaints about the unit but I don’t have to. I made my decision and am happy for it. It’s no longer an open question for me.

No wireless Carplay with Dynavin, and it still has the big buttons, but they don't look out of place in the car.

The Avin's glossy screen looks chintzy to me, and that's the main thing that has prevented me from switching from Dynavin to Avin.

Talk to Jeff first. He and I spent a lot of time on the phone before this purchase for me to understand what changed since my last one. In addition to "features" (bells, whistles and gizmos -- which I could give 2 shitzzz about), there is a lot more performance. He was instrumental in design decisions, moving this from "a cell compatible dash device that plays music" to "a car stereo that also works with your phone." I'm paraphrasing, but that's what moved me... the guts of the unit to work with Hertz amps and BavSound speakers. It's also what I grilled him on. I don't need a dash mounted iPad. I need a car stereo, being a bit of an old school audiophile (think metal biased cassette tapes in the 80s and 90s). The old one had poor sound quality IMO, as well as glitches. The N6 was a step up, and the N7 is two steps further. So yes, the specs reflect that. But then again, I can tell the difference in mp3 compressed audio format vs basically anything else, to your DSP concern.

But I don't work for them, don't take my word for it. Call him. Both installs were plug and play by the way. Very simple, complete kits.

The AVIn I spec’d out was over a hundred dollars cheaper as I don’t need the igo, and all that extras stuff. However, the 4v preamp outs is nice on the N7 PRO vs the 2V on avant4. The DSP is 15 band on AVIn vs 10 on the dynavin I think.

I guess I might as well go for the N7 Pro.
