    Ok here's a ridiculous one I just remembered: Differential swap on an E9x non-M.

    The driveshaft connects to the diff with a single large nut on a spline. It's torqued down with a ton of loctite. This turns a simple diff swap into a 2 person job since you need an extra set of hands to keep the shaft from spinning (strike 1: more difficulty). The nut is torqued down with a ton of threadlocker and TIS calls for it to be replaced (strike 2: more cost). Finally once torqued down, you can't just drive off, there is curing time of 2 hours that must be observed (strike 3: more time). Isn't that ridiculous? There was no reason to switch from a simple traditional 6-bolt flange. Actually they used a 6-bolt flange on the M.
