    Replacement Parts for Manual Transmission

So I am having someone do the SMG to 6MT manual conversion soon and found someone with a 110k OE manual that is willing to sell in exchange with my 120k transmission as a core. Their transmission works perfectly fine but I would like to know if there are any items in the transmission that I should replace (ie.. compression springs, seals, pins)

I’m just looking over the parts through here: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=23_0887

Also planning on replacing the clutch, flywheel, Guibo, center support bearing and rear main seal. Any other parts I should look out in replacing while I am in there as well?

throw out bearing, guide tube, pilot bearing, hydraulics, engine and trans mounts and anything else that moves, has friction against it or is made of rubber.

New pin/fork (guide tube was already mentioned, fork wears with it).

Might not be a bad idea with tranny out to replace all springs and seals on the tranny (front, rear, shifter rod) https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=23_0219

Also all shifter related bushings: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=25_0375

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

PM for help in NorCal. Have a lot of specialty tools - vanos, pilot bearing puller, bushing press kit, valve adjustment, fcab, wheel bearing, engine support bar, etc.

You familiar with your SMG and trust it; so why not stick with it to be safe and just modify the bell housing?

Or instead of modifying the bell housing you can get a self centering CAE shifter.

If the trans is out, detent springs should be on the list. Input, output and selector rod seals.

I live out here in SoCal too and I’ve tried emailing and DM’ing him the past few months on IG but no response from him I know he’s a busy man doing his sick S62 swaps with his wagon lol. Also, I got rod bearings done from Malek at MRF Engineering and told him about my no response from Kaiv, and he thought maybe he got out of business due to COVID???

I thought about it especially since I live like 10 minutes from Lang Racing haha, but might as well be as OEM as possible

I read about that DIY from Mike too on E46Fanatics and would want to know if anyone has any comments or experiences with this? I would definitely like to go with a SSK in the future, but how is overall reliability of this with a smg bellhousing?

“Mike” May have wrote the diy over there but I was the first to successfully do the no-drop swap with a CAE. I would do it again in a heartbeat. The main thing you need to decide is if you want a chassis mounted shifter.

You do have the option of getting the “street” version (read shorter) they offer now which wasn’t available when I did mine the better part of 3 years ago.

The cost is basically exactly the same as getting a bell housing, however, the job can be done very quickly. Unless you need a clutch saving all the hours of pulling the trans etc. is pretty great!

Feel free to ask ask questions and I’ll do my best to answer.
