    BMC filter falls apart

Anyone know how or if these BMC drop-in filters are warranted? I have not one but two where the soft red urethane around the perimeter breaks apart in pieces. Yeah you think I would have learned from the first one. First one was bought on the group buy on old forum many years ago so don’t have receipts.
Anyone here get their’s replaced, can’t see old ///M3F thread.

Why would you want a poor quality filter replaced? Get back to OEM. Your engine deserves better.

BMC is OE on the E46 M3 CSL. So it’s filter media is good enough for BMW ///M.

I have had this happen on Mann and Mahle filters as well. I have even had to dig pieces of that soft rubber crap from the MAF mesh filter. You need to be more careful when re-installing the airbox. If you pinch it the wrong way it will rip it. Seems to be a common issue with all the OE vendors.

It’s like melted Red Vines but gummy-waxy and smears all over hands when touched. I remember on old forum they said they had bad batch. But this is twice. Filter media fine, just the silicone sealing frame.
Anyone ever deal with getting this warranted? Thanks

How old is that thing? Theses aren’t expected to last forever, nor do they have a lifetime warranty. Looks like you got your money’s worth out of it. Just replace it and move on.

Wow, that looks like garbage...wouldn't dare put it in my car. How many miles are on that thing? Get yourself an OEM paper filter and call it a day.

Well they use to be Lifetime warranty, like K&N. Even AutoHausAZ and ECS still lists the M3 filter as lifetime.https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/120322...hoCXL0QAvD_BwE

But notice BMC Italy website now says 2 year warranty. So looks like I'm going to have to fight on this one.
Both were used about 2 years each. Been out for a good year and a half. I have a CF GruppeM intake that I take off for Smog Test and put stock back on. I saved these to get warranteed as others did back in the day but
that looks like it's going to be harder unless someone knows if they cover this under a grandfather clause or can contribute how their got theirs Warranted.

These actually were sold listed like other performance filters as Lifetime Warranty. Heck I still have my E30 M3 and other K&N filters over 30 years old still in great shape.

Your username checks out. :P But in all seriousness why tho bro?
If the sealing frame is visibly falling apart then who knows whats going on at the microscopic level with the filter itself?
Best case scenario it performs as well as a brand new $15 oem filter.
Worst case scenario its been feeding tainted airflow into your engine for years.

I always wonder why people don't just contact the manufacturer instead of posting on a forum in these situations lol. It could be a defect, it could be environmental (which is why I asked if you were close to the ocean) or who knows?? They would know. And if you are polite in your email, and they in fact had a lifetime warranty, they will probably send you another .

I agree, and "Liked" your post. Just to be clear I really like the performance of the BMC filter. So much so that I bought another. I posted trying to find those others from the past who got it covered. Who and how they went about it.
Just so you know the BMC Airfilter website has a contact page, it's been down all week. Says Internal Server Error, Cant send Email.
