    Rod Bearing DIY question

I have a couple of questions after reading SYT’s DIY.

TIS says just to use drei bond 1209 on the joint? Will RTV black work or do I need the bmw stuff? Also see Corteco EVO300 as OE. Does this mean around the entire gasket? I know SYT did whole surface, top and bottom but I thought I remember reading it only needs to be in specific spots? Just confirming...

My front subframe bolts are E-Torx and not hex. I can’t find the size and realoem shows hex for my model too. It’s larger than E16. Does anyone know the size?

    TIA

Black RTV should work fine. Most people just do it at the joints. Maybe replace the subframe bolts to the hex style if it's ok? sorry I dont know the size

Only a small amount of sealant (3mm wide, 2mm high) is needed at the 4 joints. Drei Bond is a bit more viscous and easier to work with, where RTV can get messy. RTV should work fine though. The subframe bolt is

DO NOT PUT RTV ON BOTH SIDES OF THE GASKET! My back still hurts from during my oil pan twice because I followed SYT's advice and put RTV and both sides of the gasket. It leaked after I was done and I had to redo it. You only want a tiny dab of Drei Bond 1209 where the timing cover mates to the block, and where the crank cover on the back mates to the block. Basically where there is a seam. Less is more. Just a tiny dab will suffice.

Also, when you are putting the FCABs on after reinstalling the subframe, mate FCABs to the frame rail first, then bolt them in. Do not use the bolt to guide the FCAB into place. You will cross thread your frame rail.

Toyota FIPG works really well. Used it on vanos-to-head lower left bolt and it has held up quite well.

Reinzosil also works well, I just let it cure 24hrs before exposing it to oil.

Researching all over the Internet and not just NAM3F, many people pointed to this as a perfect substitute for drei-bond on the oil pan, as well as just about anywhere you would use Black RTV: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072MSK9Y4/

They’re E18. It looks like they updated the part and the new ones are hex. The size and thread pitch should be the same though
