I just installed a GC DA coilover system in my car that I picked up used, and am overall pretty happy with it. As part of my pre-purchase inspection I turned all adjusters to ensure nothing was leaking or seized, however this was off the car - I just cut my trunk liners and was testing out how easy rebound adjustment was, and was met with oily fingers when I adjusted the LR shock. Checking the others revealed no problems with the RR or FL damper, however the FR strut did have a very light coating of oil on the adjuster.
I called GC up and they said if the kit has been sitting for a while (which it has been for about 4 years), that some initial weepage is normal, and it should go away after breaking them in. I played with the adjustment knobs a bit more and went for a drive, the FR strut has stopped weeping but the LR shock still weeps, though not nearly as bad as it did initially (probably 1 drop of oil on the adjuster after turning it). So 3 questions:
1) Has anyone else had the same issue with Koni-based coilovers, where the adjuster is on the top?
2) When wiped off the hydraulic oil from the LR shock has a blue-ish tint to it, whereas the FR strut is colourless. Could this be an indication of the adjuster seal going bad?
3) Does anyone know if the adjuster seal is something that can be DIY'd? There is no leakage at the shaft seal where it goes into the shock body, and if possible I'd like to avoid a full rebuild because it doesn't seem necessary.
