I need to fix a small rust spot on the e46. My local trusted body shop wants about $45/ounce for spray gun paint. Yeah sure...

Does anyone have a good source for paint? Theres a few websites out there but has anyone actually ordered anything from them?

The best body shop around me uses Standox paint. You can try to locate a local distributor and ask if they sell small quantities.

Alternatively, there's a seller on eBay called mbiauto and they use PPG shop-line as the supplier.

Thank you. They seem to have the best reviews of anywhere online. Thankfully I dont really care that much about the cars im spraying. Mostly looking to gain some experience and try out using a spray gun instead of rattle can. I'll throw up some pics of my results.

I used them several times with very good results. Last time I ordered sparkling graphite for my e90 and even though it is a difficult color to match I was pretty happy with the result.

Automotivetouchup is pretty good, but I'd practice blending on something that doesn't matter first. Kinda hard to spray right the first time.

Thanks Jonathan. A buddy of mine owns a body shop so i'll hit him up and grab an old panel thats garbage to practice on. Any other tips for a first timer? Im not going for perfect, just decent or better.

Light coats! Read about all shit that can happen and remember every one of them when spraying.

Watch some YouTube, and then watch some more. Lots of painting info, some ok some not (guess that applies to everything). I'm no good, I just know enough that I'm not good at blending. Seems easy enough in theory though! An old body panel is a good place to start. Even something from a junk yard, make sure you know the paint code so you can get the correct color to match. And the clear coat is also important to protect your work. Good luck!
