No reaction from the car at 4K rpm/5th gear, why?

Let me do my best to explain my car's problem; (btw, car is '03 E46 M3) For example, when the car is in 2nd at around 4K rpm and I press the gas the car literally jumps. Love it. But not when in 5th or 6th gear at 4K rpm. Say, I am in the middle lane of the freeway and I want to move to the left lane. I press the gas pedal to the metal expecting the car to accelerate, but there is no noticeable change of speed. Kind of a scary feeling. Almost like when touching the breaks and nothing happens.
The car has new or pretty new belts, valve adjustment done not too long ago, what else is relevant?
I learned to go down to the 4th gear if I want to accelerate on the freeway. That said, I feel that there is something wrong. What do you think?

Do the revs climb while you have no appreciable power?

      Codes? Mods? Vanos Adaptations?

First question: do the revs climb? Yes but painfully slowly

second question: no code or engine mods, new Vanos 50K miles ago

A video comparison of 4th, 5th, and 6th would really help. I think a visual would really help us know what's happening to help you better.
          What mods do you have?

I would appreciate if you could elaborate on “video”. Do you mean a video of me driving on a freeway?

My car had a laggy feeling in the higher rpms like that, but felt great down low. Cleaning the MAF made an enormous difference. It's probably not that simple, but something easy to knock off the list. Edit: Oops, I read that too fast-I thought you said 5/6k RPM, not 5th/6th gear. Maybe worth doing anyway though.

Make a video of 4k acceleration in 2nd gear. Then make a video of 4k accel in 5th/6th.

Video is not easy to do; I will start by cleaning MAF. It is on my to do list anyway

For a video just video a comparison of what you said. Hold you phone and show the accerlation for like 5 seconds in the different gears. Keep the windows up since you'll be moving quickly.

MAFSensor should be cleaned by Thursday
Let’s see if it makes any difference
