    Electrical Issue—Headlights

So when I purchased the vehicle, the previous owner had angel eyes installed. I have removed the angel eyes and de-soldered the connection in the DME box.

I didn’t want to leave the wiring open, so I wanted to solder the ends together with some heat shrink. Unfortunately, the wire is short enough to wear I could not feasibly do so in the box without heat damage to other wires. As a solution I solder an approximately 4 inch 12 gauge stranded section to bridge the two half’s thinking this would be an acceptable solution.

I have been doing a bunch of work on the car and plugged in the battery to check my work.

The car turns on, and after 30-45 seconds the light bulb symbols come on dash.

    All lights function.

Pushing the stalk forward into the locked position brightens the xenons.

Pulling the stock forward lights the halogens, which, after about thirty seconds become hot enough that they start smoking. I turn the car off after this.

I cleared all the codes in INPA and no errors show up, nor do shadow codes.

There were codes that were there initially,
But I cleared them without printing them light an idiot.

There was something along the ways of Lampendenfuerder or something to that extent.

    Any ideas?

Note that the tear in the bridge line existed when installed, I haven’t had time to properly seal it.

You want to make sure that the wire that you are using to bridge the connection is the same gauge as the power wire from the DME. Anything less than the power wire can cause electrical issues and shortages.

That was my fear. I believe I used 12 when the line is 14. I appreciate it.

12 ga is bigger than 14 ga, if that's what you used shouldn't be an issue.

Yea I think I am okay. It was kind of a derp move. I have so much of the car taken apart, cooling system, intake, starter, etc. that I forgot I had the corner lights off, which is likely triggering the dash lights (I hope) and test some of that stuff out tomorrow. The heat from the halogens is the only thing bothering me, but I guess theoretically they aren’t supposed to be burned for long...? We shall see.
