Dual OEM Resonator Section 1 Exhaust

I recently put on a new exhaust that was the following setup:

    OEM Euro Headers (Catless)
    OEM Section 1
    Supersprint Resonated X-pipe Section 2
Rogue Engineering El Diablo Section 3

Here is a brief video: https://youtu.be/Xp6v7rPU8ws

I tried to do a similar format to the videos Tbonem3 uploaded with his exhaust setups.

As you may hear, this setup produced in my opinion was was an awful resonance/drone at 2500-3000 rpm. Below 2500 it was pretty quiet, and above 3000 it was awesome. Unfortunately I spend most of my time in that loud rpm band when I cruise around town or on the highway.

I knew I would have to find a fix or change the setup. I recently saw a video from Alexander Jackson on YouTube (https://youtu.be/Iy0at2f4YPc) where he used 2 OEM Section 1s, cut them up and made a dual resonated section 1. I hadn’t seen much forum information on it and that I would give it a shot. I didn’t want to cut up my original section 1 setup so I started to look for donors. I sourced my first section 1 on Facebook Marketplace for $50. Then I started calling some junkyards but ended up empty handed. Finally I turned to trusty old eBay. I found several priced around $150-170. I started looking for the “make an offer” button to start my bids. I was accepted on one for $50 with free shipping, solid deal.

Cutting was pretty easy. The middle welds was the most time consuming part just due to the amount of material to be removed, which still isn’t much. On the end that faces the rear of the car, there are 2 spot welds which some free very quickly.

In the video that Andrew Jackson posted, he mentioned that the two pipes do touch. The resonators themselves don’t touch but the contact occurs where the middle weld was. I installed the driver side pipe first, then the passenger side. The second pipe was a bit of a squeeze, I would recommend loosening the cross brace that holds the section 2 mount for a little extra wiggle room.

So now my setup is the following:
    OEM Euro Headers (Catless)
    Dual OEM resonator Section 1
    Supersprint Resonated X-pipe Section 2
Rogue Engineering El Diablo Section 3

Here is the accompanying video: https://youtu.be/bTm5cbSX_uw

I found that this removed all of that nasty drone I was having from 2500-3000 rpm. I didn’t notice too much of a difference other than that.

I also decided to make a comparison video of the low end where the drone was as well as the top of the power band. That video is here: https://youtu.be/grfy8kFwtwk

To me, the top of the power band sounds the same, so I feel as though my goal was accomplished.

Nice write-up. No audible rattle from where the pipes touch?

Originally I thought that would be an issue, but there is enough force touching them together that I don’t see how they would have much of any movement. So no, no audible rattle from my observance.

I wound up having to TIG a small bracket to tie the pipes back together on mine to keep them from rattling together at certain harmonics. May also have to do with the fact that the PO installed AP headers, so perhaps a little more wiggle in them than in the OE stuff. Frankly it's almost too quiet now, although I've been running it this way for a couple years now. Still sounds good at full song, but I kind of miss the "bark" it had just off idle with the stock section 1.
