    5 Mods you loved / 5 Mods you didn't

As someone who hasn't modified my car anywhere to the level of some on this forum, I think it'd be insightful which modifications y'all personally enjoyed the most or found the most transformative. And also which mods you didn't like or found to be over-hyped. Could be something small like alcantara steering wheel, or big like 4.10 gears. Feel free to add explanations and also post the purpose of your car (daily vs. weekend vs track) because I'm sure that plays a role in whether you enjoyed or didn't enjoy solid driveline mounts XD

    Purpose: Daily/Weekend

    5 Mods I Loved:
    - Headers + Muffler
    - Avin Avant 4
    - E85 Flex Fuel Kit
    - Hotchkis Front Sway Bar
    - Poly RTAB's (thinking of upgrading to monoball soon)
(Honorable mention: Convex Euro Side Mirror Glass)

    5 Mods I Didn't Care Much For:
    - Resonated section 1 (Missed the rasp)
    - Any level of window tint (prefer OE look)
    - Angel Eyes (liked them at first, now I'm on the fence)
    - Removing sound deadening under rear seats (only removed bc it was crumbling when fixing fuel pump)
    - Removing head shield over headers (resulted in a state ref after cop said "pop the hood")

    5 mods I loved:
-bluebus adapter - allowed me to play Bluetooth music without an aftermarket radio
-RTD shifter - crisp shifts and a much better feel with no play
-Gloss black grills - no more chrome
-clutch stop - saved an inch of clutch pedal travel
    - Alcantara steering wheel rewrap (Coby wheel) - feels much better

I haven’t disliked any mods so far. If anything, I regret not modding more.

Great idea. I could spend a night talking about this, but in short:

      Loved:

-Epic Tune (when I had the original airbox - more noticeable gain than headers)
      -AST 4100s
      -Recaro PPs/SPGs
      -SGT CSL Trunk
      -Stoptech ST40

      Not so much:

-Karbonius CSL Airbox (too much hassle for little noise)
-Going cat-less for a few years
-Eagle Eye LED tails back in 2009 (now OEM LED)
-Solid Aluminum Diff Bushings (unnecessary NVH)
      -SGT CSL Front Bumper

Good idea, we can learn from this.

        Things I liked

        1. Autosolutions SSK
        2. Going to a square setup
        3. Zero toe all around
        4. Recaro SPG XLs
        5. Buying VCSL parts when you could

        Things I didn't like

        1. Installing the Autosolutions SSK
        2. Rotating wheels on the square setup
        3. Tramlining due to zero toe and a lot of neg camber
        4. Getting in and out of the Recaro SPG XLs
        5. Paying a premium for VCSL parts that still didn't fit that well

Wow that feels good to let out. We should do this more.

                Good:
                Konis/eibachs
                euro headers
                rebuilt shifter
                amber tail lights
                New floor mats

                Not as good:
                avin avant 4
                blacked out grilles
smoked tail lights (bought with car)
                cheap coilovers (probably the worst)
                Liqui-moly diff fluid. Not impressed

Best thing to spend money on these days is maintenance to keep it happy. Btw, anyone want to change my rod bearings for me??? Lol

                      Good:
                      -MSCs
                      -Brembo GTs

                      Bad:
-shitty hood vents (long gone now)
-sunroof delete panel, should have just done the carbon roof, or at least a better quality panel
-Hard Motorsports splitter. It's not good enough for track duty - it's failing, badly.
                      '02 e46m3 - fully caged track car
                      many others

lol at all the mods that are both loved and hated (have quite a few myself)

                        Purpose: weekend/autox/track

                        5 Mods I Loved:
                        - TCK coilovers (fantastic ride quality, shocks can handle wide range of spring rates)
                        - Autosolutions ssk (great shift feel)
                        - 70% ceramic tint (heat rejection and popo friendly)
                        - aluminum trim (on a black interior is just so classy)
                        - Dinan Muffler (best sounding exhaust)

                        5 Mods I Didn't Care Much For:
                        - SS Race (wicked sound up top, but absolutely unbearable drone and volume)
                        - race cats (anything more aggressive than euro cats is just too fuel-y smelling imo)
                        - SGT coilovers (horrific street ride quality, almost no travel, never dared to drive them in a sporty manner)
                        - convex mirrors (crazy distorted, after years still not really used to it)
                        - Dinan Muffler (started to drone over time, couldnt get over the dummy tips)

                          Best mods:
                          JRZ coilovers by far
                          18” square setup
                          SS Race muffler
Solid subframe, differential mounts and RTABs
Gloss black grills, not really into chrome

Bonus: Getting rid of the freaking armrest that I would hit on every time I changed gears!

                          Worst:
ZCP wheels, they look awesome but I feel like I’m breaking the car/ wheels every time I hit the tiniest pothole

Adding an Evolve CSL airbox and Streetfaction RSD panel soon...hoping they fall on the “best” list!

                            Great thread.

My car's purpose spans daily with baby and road trips with bike rack all the way to track.

                            Love:
-Ssv1 with race cats and tune (have done the CA smog thing a few times, driving around for a while on stock headers and tune, HUGE difference)
-4.10 (lot of debate on this on the forum)
-Ohlins R&T, especially running them on softer settings (even on track) with more flat ride-ish springs
-Not yet installed, but I think I will love Coolerworx Pro shifter
-Schroth Quick Fit Pro - I'm on stock seats and will stay on them for a while, so this thing is an absolute game changer to keep me planted. I also use the Simpson hybrid HANS with it (which can also be used with the stock seatbelt).

                            In between love and hate:
-AJ Hartman delete panel. This one is more toward love because I'm tall and gained headroom space, supposedly also dropped ~32lbs from the top of the car (although can't say I really noticed it), but, it's a pretty coin, I broke a few tabs on b/c pillars getting the old liner out and getting to the sunroof, I haven't fully sourced the new liner yet, with sunroof glass gone that eliminates a mounting point for the gorilla suction cups and mount I used for the cam. So it was a lot more work/time/$ than I anticipated.
-ST40 front kit, (I haven't installed the rear yet, sitting somewhere in the garage from when I bought a full set used a few years ago), but I experienced knockback on track before I swapped my front wheel bearings (none since then), I don't actually use the quick pad swap feature because I run PFC08 year round (and truthfully I can prob swap pads just as quickly on the stock caliper), so I'm still getting to grips with this kit. I'm leaning toward "love", sticking with it and installing the rear kit as well (retains parking brake), and running it, as the car is seeing more track time, decent pads in the right shapes/sizes for older Porsche models can be had from FCP, 355 rings (both front and rear on the kit) last a long time (fronts have seen a lot of abuse so far).

                            Not so love:
-Eventuri - sound-wise I can't hear it over the exhaust and the diff, power wise I'm not sure there is anything extra. Positive is that it makes getting to PS fluid easier .
-E85 kit - while there are plenty of ethanol gas stations within 10mins and paying 25% less for fuel is nice, I have to always do some math to keep it under E50 or less with my mods and stock injectors (which are not straightforward plug and play to retune and rescale new injectors). If (which is unlikely) I end up doing a true CSL box and cams, and keep stock injectors, I'll have to run even lower ethanol %, since the other mods will require more fuel and will put stock injectors closer to their max even without any ethanol. Then it's a rabbit hole for new injectors, fuel pump, wideband o2, retune, then either swapping injectors for smog every 2 years or getting a new "stock" tune to rescale the injectors. Anyway.
-SS oversized S2 - I am a rasp guy, so prefer the stock s2 here (my full system is ssv1, race cats, sport ss muffler). Butt dyno is very subjective, I think the oversized s2 does add a few hp, but oh well.
-Shifter and levers. I've tried a few, with all refreshed shifter bushings, etc, they all feel like cheese compared to my s2k. Hopefully I didn't jump the gun putting the Coolerworx Pro chassis mounted shifter in the love category even though I have not installed it yet. Loved the action of CAE/RTD that I tried in other cars.

Might add few other things if I think of something.

                            Youtube DIYs and more

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

PM for help in NorCal. Have a lot of specialty tools - vanos, pilot bearing puller, bushing press kit, valve adjustment, fcab, wheel bearing, engine support bar, etc.

Oh boy. 15 years of parts I’ve removed givens me lots of choices for dislikes!

                              best:
                              nogaros
CSL air box that doesn't suck (OEM in my case)
                              brembos
                              flat ride
Headlight upgrade (TFX projectors in my case)

worst (none of which are installed anymore):
                              VAC CSL airbox/tune
                              angel eyes
                              streamline csl bumper
                              carbon fiber driveshaft
                              4.10s

lightening the car would be on the best list, as it’s really the thing I’ve done that’s most improved the car, but it’s the results of many different things.
