Racing diffs sells a rebuild its 450$

This is a video of the symptoms.

I actually just bought this kit. The bearings are Koyo which are super high quality from what I found out. The clutches, I'm not sure, but I guess I'll find out. It's a really good price for the kit. No more using $150 diff fluid as the clutches will be different. FCP stocks the Motul they suggest which is even better.

Ah shit I didn't know they required different oil. Good thing I didn't buy any yet.

Has either of you or anyone else used their kit before and have any feedback? And have you guys talked to the seller at all? They have 210mm and m kits separately, are there differences? 210mm kit seems to have more customization.

One other major one I see is that m kit has 1 year warranty (vs 210mm is lifetime). 1 year warranty tells me this is a bandaid fix that will require another revisit if the car is driven...

          Youtube DIYs and more

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

PM for help in NorCal. Have a lot of specialty tools - vanos, pilot bearing puller, bushing press kit, valve adjustment, fcab, wheel bearing, engine support bar, etc.

I'm about to use it. If it works, good. If it doesn't, I'll just replace the type of LSD. I'm not worried about the bearings failing at all. I'd be happy to get 5 years out of these clutches. I wouldn't be handing out lifetime warranties on E46 M3 diffs. A diff known to fail regularly in a car that will most likely be abused. The 210mm is for the old 7 and 8 series. A nice ride for grandma. Open diffs in these cars won't face the same challenges.

Is there any downside with converting the stock M-Variable LSD to a standard, 3-clutch LSD? Other than time and money?

I messaged Dan last night, here is what he had to say.

I was also thinking about that racingdiffs concave washer and that extra force, plus the extra width of the clutches (per their video it's 13.77 vs stock 13.25) has to go somewhere. Coming off the shelf everything will feel tight and nice but once actually driven something will wear...faster...The drifting video they have is nice, but they don't tell you how frequently those diffs need to be rebuilt (prob right around the 1 year warranty mark ).

Do with this info what you will, not dissuading anyone. I got my 4.1 from Dan few years ago and he is well known and trusted source for diffs.

I might look into a different lsd unit.

FWIW I would trust what Dan has to say. He is a no-BS kind of guy with a ton of experience with BMW diffs. When i need a new diff he will be my first and last call.

So what is the proper spider gear backlash then? A spring washer is completely unnecessary and optional.

will also check the shock mounts as well as these were just changed when the coilovers were installed.
I've been through 3 of those RE bushings.. IDK what kind of poly they use, but mine has cracked 2x within 10k miles.. I asked RE and they said they never seen that before. It was installed properly, per their instructions too.
