    Incoming Fuel Filter lines - quick disconnect.

    Not really a quick disconnect, more like a PITA connect.

    Just doing some routine maintenance. Changing the fuel filter and the quick disconnect white plastic fitting crumbled in my hand. Is this part rebuildable without replacing the entire fuel line?

    I believe advance auto and autozone carries these fittings
    ‘02 LSB M3 (11k original miles)
    ’03 Oxford Green M3 (Turbo’d)

      It looks like I’ll have to replace the entire fuel line #2 in photo.

      Has anyone ever had to replace this line? Curious if I will need special fuel line tools to disconnect this line from the system? This fitting was in bad shape and brittle. I can’t find any info online about replacing this line but I can’t imagine this isn’t an often occurrence when replacing the filter based on how brittle this disconnect was.

      Any help/input is greatly appreciated!

        Sorry no experience replacing that line but if I remember correctly, it runs down the driver’s side and held on by a few clips. The back end is a quick disconnect so it shouldn’t be too bad.

          Op, did you use a hard object trying to push the plastic sleeve in? Only use a U shape flat fork or 2 thumbs to push it. Its function is to flatten the barbs inside to release the filter.

          it seems the line is easily replaced.

          Btw, always wash the connector in gasoline really clean before inserting the filter to avoid soil get in, especially the post filler side.

            I didn’t use any tools, just my fingers. The plastic was brittle. I am familiar with this style fitting - we use them all of the time in the industry that I am in. Although, mine are not related to automotive.

            Is there a tool that makes life easier with these quick disconnects?

              They do sell the tool, check FCP; but I just gentle push it in with thumbs and no tool needed, even for the one at the fuel rail near firewall.

                You can remove the broken pieces and then use this tool from most autopart stores to do the job and don't need to replace the old pipe:https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/SER3...18&adtype=pla&

                Most US car makers don't have the plastic ring attached to the pipe, but use a separate open circle ring tool to compress the barbs for releasing the connection.

                    As I mentioned before, after disconnected the quick-disconnect connector for filter replacement or removing the fuel rail (used on non-M but I'm not sure for M cars), one needs to clean debris and dust collected inside the connector (it's dirty inside before the O-ring) to avoid clog up the fuel injectors if the dust got inside the hose or pipe. I did this by dipping the connector/hose in a bottle of gasoline and shaking it around, then ran the pump for a few seconds to flush out the dusts.
