Vanos R&R Exhaust splined shaft stuck.

Finally got around to installing my Naturally Agitated Performance Vanos unit but I've hit a snag. Try as I might I cant get the exhaust cam to fully retarded or get the splined shaft to pop out of the hub. I've got the proper locking pin and cam bridge. Intake cam no problem, exhaust not so much. Thoughts? Thanks!

Remove the solenoid and valve body from the vanos then try again

Easiest way I've found is to take off the solenoid pack/valvebody to relieve any oil pressure, stick a rag underneath then use a 24mm thin open box wrench and rock the exhaust cam back and forth to relieve any oil pressure and fully retard that way. Beisan systems has a good DIY on that. Haven't ran into issues doing that.

Once all of the hub bolts are loosened shouldn't the splined shafts come out regardless of a fully retarded cam?

Its been sitting awhile so reckoned oil pressure wouldnt be an issue. Guess i have to make a mess after all.
