    E46 M3 G420 and Supra V160, share parts?

Both boxes were made by Getrag and the 6 speed gear patterns are very similar, and so I think they might share some parts, such as synchros, output bearing. The gears arrangement and rotating direction are the same for both boxes.

    Here are the differences:
    * G420 input shaft has deep groove ball bearing vs. all roller bearings for V160. Roller bearings are stronger radially but weaker axially.
    * G420 has interlock to prevent more than one gear can engage, the V160 has no interlock pins and so in theory more than one shift rod can move out of the detent neutral position and engage two gears.
    * G420 has R, 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th shift rods on the same RH side, V160 has R shift rod on the left side and 1/2 and 3/4 on the right
    * G420 external shift shaft has detent with gear position sensor near the rear; V160 has the same detent/sensor on bell housing.

Anyone know if the gear ratio are the same for both boxes? This could hint that they might share the same synchros.

I'm local to Diffsonline and I know Dan there personally. He's been tinkering with rebuilding 420G's for a lil bit now. I can ask.

The ratios are different. Very unlikely the boxes share many significant parts.

At this point if you're dealing with a gearbox failure, I think you're better off adapting one of the newer ZF 6-speeds.
