    Anyone successfully perform vanos test using ISTA with kcan/dcan cable?

    like the title said, I seem to get stuck when trying to get into ABL/DMS, it just sits there and nothing happens, and I can't click next

    Make sure pins 7+8 on the cable are shorted together.

    I’ve only done this test with DIS though.

      I may try tomorrow as I just got ISTA up and running, I have no clue how to use ISTA let alone run a vanos test but I'll see what happens and report back if successful.
      I use DIS for the vanos test but my DIS laptop keeps blue screening and unfortunately I can't really count on it so much anymore, so much work to get DIS working I should have set it up and a better machine.

        I believe for the E46 you need ICOM to use ISTA, or an ICOM emulator.

        on my Z4M ISTA works with the D/K cable

          Something about ista and that test is screwy with the k+d-can cable. Works fine with dis.

            sounds like I'm going to need DIS to do the vanos test, where can I get a working copy of DIS? I'm assuming it'll work on CSL converted DME?

              Yes, it will work on a CSL DME, start at pss-autosoft.net, you pay a small amount but it's worth it.

                Dang, I just set up a machine with ISTA mainly for vanos test as my DIS isn't very stable.
                So the answer to is get an ICOM cable? If so what specific ICOM cable is the one to get?

                  This is the correct answer. You need ICOM. Totally different interface.

                    it is a clone, not the real deal. the original I think is 600 - 800.

                    if you want a try before investing on one feel free to borrow it, but you would need to pay shipping both ways.

                      Very nice, I think I'll definitely get one of those clone icom units once the vanos ordeal is over, ISTA off hand seems much easier to use and get up and going quickly vs. DIS which just seems so fragile.

                      Hopefully my DIS machine hangs in there long enough to test after my next round(s) of vanos work otherwise I may take you up on your very generous off to borrow your icom unit, thank you.
