When you replaced your rod bearings....

Looks I will finally get around to actually swapping out the rod bearings on my late 2003 this weekend. It does use the M10 bolts with the crazy torque procedure. The BMW bulletin makes no mention of lubricating the rod bolt threads, so I assume they should be dry (why could they not have been specific?). I have been advised by someone who would know that no bolt should ever be torqued completely dry.

If you have done this job did you torque the bolts dry or did you lubricate them?

The TIS states to replace, wash and oil the bolts before install. The SIB pdf probably does not have this as part of the instructions because they are assuming a dealership tech has done a few of the installs and has referenced the TIS instructions, or there is already oil in the threads and on the connecting rods because it is not a dry rebuild.

Thanks Slide. I need to get in the habit of using the TIS.
