Anyone Doing a Carbon Fiber/Composite Hood Group Buy??

    Fellow M3 Drivers:

Is any carbon fiber hood group buys going on? Here are some of the usual hoods with best-known pricing. I've disregarded the heavier ones save Seibon, which I already have on my M3. If anyone wants to take up the mantle on this, feel free to.

I'd be interested to work with Mario at MKRenn on this, as he also has the E9X M3 GTR hood. Forget dealing with Motorsport24, they are dead beats that private label products.

There are hurdles to doing any hood group buy:
    1. Production capacity: most of these companies will produce 1x hood per week at best and don't keep stock most often.
    2. Logistics: we need a 20" ft container load for this to make any sense.
One doesn't go with the other.

No group buy, but Mike Shaw (MA Shaw) called today. GT-R style hood, 15 pounds $1,450 delivered from Santa Ana, CA to St. Louis.

        Mario is a good dude.

I haven't heard the words ma shaw in over a decade. Good to know he's in my backyard though if I need anything.

I'd be interested in a group buy for the MK Renn Hood as well, I was eyeing that since my front hood needs to be replaced eventually. I saw they had a 20% off special during Black Friday.

Also if I do that Ill add his front lip to the mix to save on shipping maybe.

would be worthwhile to add to your list which hoods require hood pins or not

the geoff steele website says hood pins are highly recommended regardless of which construction method you choose

FWIW internet search result for the stock E46 M3 hood weight is 23 pounds

FWIW look at working with Precision Glass & Composites. I am running their NACA duct roof and the work is flawless. The mold they used for my roof had the indents on the outer edge just like an OEM steel roof.

I can do it. I would just need around 15 people on board to be safe. I could produce them in full Carbon fiber, (both inner mold and outer, compared to the single out skin layer available on the market). It would also be vacuum infused yielding similar results to prepreg. If you're willing to get a solid group together we can make things happen. Being that I'm still trying to grow my business my rate is very competitive compared to most shops. I do this on the side, while my main job is laying up critical SpaceX structural parts so I have a high attention to detail, and the support of the engineers whenever I have any questions. If you're willing to put this together message me and we can discuss details. All my materials would be "aerospace grade" minus the prepreg part. Meaning I would utitlize the same fabrics used in aerospace, as well as the bonding epoxies. I don't cut corners.

Count me in if you can make them like the MK-Renn one.

I Just had two cups of coffee and no plans for tonight. I'm going to map out the project. Thing is I was thinking of going with a seibon type one because its been done so much but if I were to replicate the one you mentioned I don't know how people would react to it since its already in production. Even though I could produce it far cheaper lol.

If we know approximate price for 15-20 people on board that may help to get people commuted.

All of them are copies of the PTG GTR hood which PGC owns the original molds for so if one were to keep things authentic PGC would be the best route. I like the Mk-Renn cause the vent over the radiator helps that my car has electric pull only. You could maybe do something like N15 and Track spec vents since those are aluminum inserts that rivet on. But you could mimic their shape into an original CF hood.

I can do that. If you refer to my other post, It would be the same price.
