    Robs E46M BRG Street Build

Enjoyed doing my Rosso build so much, decided to start another one! I keep an eye on the local NYC E46M market and one popped up in Brooklyn that looked like a good candidate. A 2004 Silver Grey, black interior with 80k miles and SMG. It had been parked outside under a car cover and not driven much in the last few years. Interior was a little rough and it had some some minor damage on the hood. Pulled the trigger and brought it up to the BX Garage! Couple before pics:

Body and paint are in decent shape. Good base for a full color change! Also, not sure why the rims are painted black? Guess thats one way to hide curb rash...

Dent in the hood (good thing I have a new hood . Also not a fan of headlight washers, definitely deleting those.

Engine bay looking good and running well. Car came with a decent amount of service records.

Has all the standard interior issues. Sagging pillars/headliner, sticky soft touch finish etc... But the dash and door card leather looks great. Also SMG feels great and has a new replacement pump (still gonna covert it to 6spd):

Now for some build inspiration! First, I want this to be another street build. I love the track car, but only on the track... and after enjoying Rosso for a couple years I want to try to improve on that OEM+ approach. Second, had to pick a color! Went up to Hayfields C&C a few weeks back and saw this beauty at 1600Veloce:

I've always liked British Racing Green and seeing this is person sealed the deal. Fantastic color! Also want to go one step further on the CSL tribute and go full CSL style front bumper, roof and trunk. I think the motor in Rosso is perfect with the CSL box and cams, so probably going that route again. Still debating interior colors!

Awesome! BRG is great, though I think the E36 wears it better than E46 similar to estoril, dakar, hellrot etc, but that's my opinion. Will be unique for sure like your rosso.

This should be fun. I too am a big fan of green. Alfa's Verde Montreal is my new favorite.

One has to go eventually, not enough room in the BX 😂

Yeah that didin't look so great in person... Also generally not a fan of similar color interior/exterior. I did like the CF trim!

Tear down time! Back at the garage got the M3 up on the Quickjacks and started taking it apart. First big goal is to get it striped down with engine and glass out so I can get it over to Mario for paint. Will also be installing the carbon roof before paint like I did with Rosso.

Got the bumpers off the trunk removed (all for sale). Going to be replacing the trunk with a new OE piece 😉. Whatever repair was done on the backend was done well, overall pretty happy with the body. There was some janky audio wiring and the sub box is missing. I'll be deleting the rear backup sensors (ugly...) and the shark fin (very ugly...), so pulled out all of that wiring and equipment. One tail light has some water in it so will need to rebuild/replace that.

Next was the interior. Seats, pillars and headliner out. Standard crumbling/smelly sounds deadening in the rear seat. Pulled all of that out and will be replacing. Also got the rear side windows out.

And lastly got the windshields removed. The rear I got out on my own with the Harbor Freight tools. The front I had a local glass shop stop by and remove. Its all original glass in great shape and I didn't want to break it... Plus preserved my passed inspection sticker! Ton of NYC meter parking slips stuck under the windshield. Oldest from 2015 🤣. Now ready for the carbon roof install!

                          looking forward to this build!

are you able to store all those removed parts in that garage? i removed the full interior on my car in a 2 car garage and it pretty much took up the extra car space

It’s my never ending challenge… I have a storage area a block away where I store a lot of stuff and I hang most of the big stuff like hood, underbody trim etc from the ceiling.

Just read your Rosso build. impressive work! How do you like working with the Quick Jacks? Any safety concerns getting underneath the car with them?

Also, how was prepping the engine bay for painting? We’re you able to sufficiently clean all the nooks and crannies?
