Did some quality of life upgrades. I've had the Induktiv qi charger for a couple of years, and I like the concept but the actual charging execution sucks a bit. Decided to improve my general charging situation while I was at it.

Generally, I'm tried chargers that are running near capacity overheating in use and stopping working for periods/forever. Sooo...

Bought this 167W GaN charger and connected it behind the dash:

Replaced the cigarette lighter tube with this, and ran it to the 100W port on the charger:

cut out the qi (1) charger on my induktiv charger and replaced it with a 2nd gen MagSafe puck (and printed it a little trip piece to hide the cut):
Click image for larger version Name:	magsafe.jpg Views:	0 Size:	39.2 KB ID:	360086

3D printed a new ash tray and installed a (USB A) Apple watch/airpods magsafe puck in that:
Click image for larger version Name:	watch.jpg Views:	0 Size:	34.0 KB ID:	360087

And printed this ziptie technology to keep everything from vibrating apart:

Click image for larger version Name:	m1.jpg Views:	16 Size:	93.9 KB ID:	352884

I'm pretty pleased with the result. Everything is close at hand, but disappears when the armrest is down and ash tray is closed.

The iPhone MagSafe plug is rated for 45w and will max out at 30W pulled, so should have plenty of thermal head room.
The Apple Watch charger plug is rated for 22W, and pulls 5W at max, so should have even more thermal headroom.
And, the bonus 100W USB C port might be occasionally useful, and it's pretty unlikely I'll ever be pulling 100W out of it.

The USB extension 12v plug replacement feels like it was made for purpose-- press fit in, and it's secure, with no modification required.

That's awesome! I've also been disappointed with the charging on the inductiv unit. Any chance you are willing to share the 3D print files for the different pieces you used?

Thats awesome. I went with the rennline mount and then added the magsafe charger to that.

lol, sure, but they're not really... designed to be customer facing. :P

          Ashtray:

I'm probably going to revise it to have a finger cutout to make removing the airpods easier.

          Hole cutting template:
          https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/pvmwg...tf5&st=hnam13v b&dl=0
This inserts into the induktiv phone cavity and gives you a template to dremel the hole for the magsafe puck.

          Magsafe trim:
          https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8ouzo...cxas&st=u7eicf jw&dl=0
Goes around the magsafe puck to hide the edge of the cuts.

          Magsafe holder:
          1: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/48jit...hsmnf35fs&st=j 5wl49q4&dl=0
          2: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/y9anx...x66iokjl&st=77 bjjecr&dl=0
These support the MagSafe puck from below (epoxy in). I'm not sure if they'll directly apply to all Induktiv chargers, as mine looks like it had milling as part of production. I'd have to imagine that was because it was an early unit, and that wasn't the long term solution...

          Plug securing brackets:
          1: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/vewf2...9gi4k&st=4r9rh wrd&dl=0
          2: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/pg1j8...0u1wp&st=nqd7f 9rf&dl=0
These use zip ties to make it so the plug can't vibrate apart behind the dash, without obstructing the charger's cooling

Update is really just a sport for a finger so they can be grabbed. They were tricky to get out before.

Still should hold up to a full G force left turn, as the bottom of the case is still braced.

                Are you sure?

I feel like we need a video to be sure.

Will make a track video for an entire session, aimed at the AirPods case 🤣

This post is really as much as note for future me as it is for anyone else.

The Xtrons Screen without bezel measures 96.5mm by 228mm.

I ordered a matte tempered glass screen cover from here, which goes beyond the visible area of the xtrons screen (so the edges won't be visible with the bezel on) in 225mm x 94mm.

I think this should really up the feel of the thing. I can't stand glossy screen in cars, and glass feels better to the finger than plastic (and shouldn't ever get scratched).

Also printed out Bry5on's chrome free, more OE looking knobs.

Yeah, it may not fit. Going to try it and find out— I want glass.

If it doesn't fit without modification, may also try printing some spacers and using longer screws before I give up on the glass idea.

I do already have some matte plastic film on hand, if I’m defeated.
