Emissions Issue w/Full CSL Hardware/Firmware Conversion

I'm currently running Kassel's CSL conversion for my Karbonius airbox. What I didn't know before I chose that over Alpha was that U.S. Emissions Systems can't connect to the ECU now beause it's Euro spec'd. Makes sense, I just simply didn't think about that, nor was informed going into it.

The CSL conversion is great. The only issue I have is with Emissions. I know one option is getting another ECU + Alpha tune and swapping that in for emissions and swapping back to the CSL post emissions, which obviously isn't cheap, so I was wondering what other members are doing as a workaround.

Kassel themselves offer a solution for this, have you asked them about it?

Off topic but once you get your emissions stuff figured out you should consider running Bry5on ‘s mullet tune.

I just swapped an HP DME into my ’02, which previously had the Kassel CSL tune—and it was remarkably bad. Bryson created a custom file based on my mods and requests, then walked me through flashing the car over a quick phone call.

In the city, it’s smooth, predictable, and compliant. Drives like the car is bone stock. When I open it up, it’s insanely responsive and snappy. 10/10 recommend.

Thanks. I’ll definitely going to look into.

Yes, and I was told that I would need to send the DME back to Kassel to have it flashed with the alpha tune and then returned to me so I can go get the emissions done. Once complete, I’d send the DME back Kassel to get it converted back to the CSL firmware.

what solution are you referring to exactly?

I had a CSL tune with working flap done by PCS (Paul Claude) tuning that ran great but wouldn't communicate with california emissions computers. I was told Kassel had a solution to this so i sent them my ECU and after a couple of back and forths (and customer support that i can best describe as, casual) my car was able to be read at any smog station. with a small caveat being you had to plug the car into obd2 and turn the ignition off and on again

i asked them specifically what they did to make it work but they would not elaborate which is understandable

i'm not sure but i guess the csl software doesn't have US smog integrated as it was never sold there. so they flashed a non csl, US software with Alpha-N instead of MAP and that's why it's working.

The CSL software that is installed is the full CSL firmware. Once installed your DME officially because a euro spec or non-U.S, therefore the U.S. emissions systems are no longer able to talk to it.

I either need to flash a second DME with Alpha and swap it in for emissions or send my current CSL DME back to Kassel to have it converted back to U.S specs and flashed with Alpha for emissions. And then rinse and repeat back to CSL.
