I just swapped an HP DME into my ’02, which previously had the Kassel CSL tune—and it was remarkably bad. Bryson created a custom file based on my mods and requests, then walked me through flashing the car over a quick phone call.

In the city, it’s smooth, predictable, and compliant. Drives like the car is bone stock. When I open it up, it’s insanely responsive and snappy. 10/10 recommend.
Does Bry5on have separate contact info?

Just to close the loop on the original topic - if you’re like me and you’re running the CSL (euro) firmware, which isn’t a tune, and are required to get emissions done in your state, your only option is run your DME with a tune, e.g., Alpha-N or another tune that is programmed to run the airbox.

With the CSL fireware conversion, the original fireware on the unit is replaced with CSL fireware which is euro spec and therefore does communicate with US Based emissions systems. That is my current issue.

What I’ve opted to do is buy a used DME and have it flashed with the Alpha-N tune. So for emissions, I’ll have the option to swap in the Alpha tuned unit and for regular driving I’ll run the one with the CSL firmware.

As for the mullet tune, it doesn’t help or solve the emissions issue. Based on my understanding, the Mullet tune is flashed on top of the CSL converted DME. However, sounds like it’s pretty good so I’ll be looking into it after emissions and once my euro headers and cats are installed.

We could also just buy a used HP DME have that flashed with CSL firmware/EWS delete what not and swap to our original virgin DME when it comes time to smog right? (provided we also remove the airbox etc)

In theory yes, but why would anyone go throgh the trouble of removing the box just po pass smog/emissions
