Seeking independent / shop in San Francisco, East Bay area for s54 e46T swap.

Greetings MM3 members...I am looking for someone or a shop who can help me debug an s54 e46Touring swap. My initial intent was to get the s54Touring certified with the coveted a ca-B.A.R. emissions certification.

Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful in locating a reliable source to commision to get it certified, which is why I am seeking help from M3Forum members. In retrospect, I should have posted first when I bought the s54 Touring swap.
I have visited shops local to me in the San Francisco East Bay area, but most have declined stating the mechanic acquainted with e46's have left or retired.
I am handy with a wrench and rebuilt a few engines for circuit racing, but clueless in coding. I am hoping someone can assist.
I really do like the analog feel and fit of the e46 platform. Ideally, I would like to keep the Touring, otherwise its off to BaT.

I am hoping for recommendations to assist in the following:
    1. Re-enabling the 5-blink signal (4.7 LCM) function that it initially had when I purchased it. Someone tried to help by recalibrating the speedometer accuracy but inadvertently erased the 5-blink signal light function.
    2. Verify what my current tune is. It supposed to be converted to stock to pass CA emissions.
    3. Diagnosed why cruise control stop working after I took it to another indy shop.
    4. Verify if Vanos needs service,
    5. Verify if rear subframe reinforcement plates were installed / welded correctly.
    6. I am considering Euro Headers with CATs in section 1 if decide to move out of state.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,
    Thank you,

Ah I see still battling with my old car 6 years later

You need to take your car 7 hours away up into San Francisco to Kevin aka limited slip

He does everything necessary to get California emissions compliant.

When I first built that car California did not have the cal id requirement that they have now where the DME code cannot be modified

In Georgia I just had all of the dtcs deleted for the emission stuff I didn't want to install which was the rear evap canister

The problem you're going to run into is that that car has the zf 6-speed transmission from the M54 ZHP. It does not have the gear position sensor and because of this, It requires special coding of the s54 DME to suppress certain dtcs that are looking for the gear position sensor. That's what I did before and that's why I was working before

Now that you took it somewhere else, they most likely flash the stock software back onto it, which doesn't include the suppressed dtcs meaning your cruise control is no longer functioning.

Because of this though you probably will never be able to get California certified because the DME will always have to be modified to suppress and get cruise control working.

You would either need to give up cruise control and have Kevin flash the complete stock s54 software unmodified and then perform an ews synchronization between the s54 DME and the wagon ews module or reinstall a getrag 420 6 speed and wire in the GPS sensor to the clutch switch in series

Unless you had the subframe modified on that, I don't think it's done because I never reinforced the subframe on that car. When I initially did the swap 6 years ago or 7 years ago I dropped the stock subframe cleaned up, inspected everything for cracks. Made sure everything was good and I installed the e46 M3 rear subframe. So if you took it somewhere thinking that it was done, it's probably not unless somebody else did it between when I had it and you have it.

Currently it has ews deleted. Which flags the Cal ID that California is looking for in ms54 DMEs

Even if every emissions equipment was installed and functioned properly. If all you have is ews deleted it will not pass California emissions because they have software that can detect that. You don't have 100% stock tune file.

For the five blink or seven blink on the LCM, somebody probably reset the LCM to default, causing you to lose that setting. If you went to a shop that's not familiar with swaps and everything, then the software that they use like a handheld scanner would most likely reset modules to the default settings. You will need to find somebody with NCS expert that can download the trace file re-enable the five blank or seven blank and reflash it.

I may have a guy. It is not a “shop,” but an independent professional. He can assist with most if not all of these things. If you would like me to connect, please DM me on Instagram @BuiltForRedline.
