MayDay! MayDay! Need Help with ISTA D Functionality

Short backstory is that long ago I bought and used a package from BMTechnic until my pc died. I'm not a coder/computer guy, I just want to check/clear codes, particularly run VANOS test using DIS/GT1. Couldn't find that download, so I opted for ISTA D, which I can't get to work. My Windows 10 laptop meets requirements, and I bridged pin 7 & 8 on the cable. So, the question for experts is, where can I find the keystrokes to get ISTA to run VANOS test, and otherwise find/clear fault codes? Or, is DIS/GT1 still a better choice for a nearly illiterate computer guy?

you will find the Vanos test on ISTA under "dms" but you will need an ICOM device. (youtube: ista vanos test) it would be cheaper if you install DIS.
