I personally would think that the last thing a Dealer would want to find is Cracks, (even if they existed) there's far too much time and effort involved in dealing with them, liaising with BMW all that paperwork for no reward, not to mention the customer.

A bit of a sweeping statement perhaps, but there are multiple job codes associated with the fix to which time and materials have to be charged individually at cost, not forgetting the use of a courtesy car which needs to be provided for the duration.

We should consider ourselves lucky to have Elms at our disposal, a Dealer who is prepared to look after their customers properly.

PS: I don't have any and I've have never been to Elms, just in case you were wondering!

I had my CSL in for a check over at Darren Wood in Stockport last week, And as I was almost expecting, they found 1 tiny crack... They suggested leaving it a while then check again.. My concern is that my car was registered in June 04 so time aint on my side, Would a main dealer likely knock me back on a minescule crack? Or is it likely to get worse in 3-4 months of minimal use (say 2-3 times a week?) Also who is considered a safe bet to do the job (up north) if I get the ok, I've heard Bluebell Wilmslow are very good, but would welcome any suggestions from those in the know. Thanks in advance guys and gals.

That's not how it works. The dealer gets paid (and the work has to be approved) by BMWUK so in my case that was 7k's worth. Nice business.

I fully appreciate that the Dealer is paid for the works undertaken, but this is at a much reduced figure to their normal charge rate, eg. £7K of BMW money, probably equates to £30K off customers, which makes for even better business!

That is definitely not the case.
            BMW gets charged the same.

When I had BMWs body shop in Hitchin check mine, straight away they spotted cracks (done over 40 cars when I went there 15 months ago). Whole process from crack finding to repaired and back on the road just over 3 weeks. I also had new rear bushes fitted whilst it was there.
