Is there any paper work about the 1.1mm miminium wear limit on net? The warranty man has never heard about it before. He is standing firm & won't give in, he keeps saying it's a wear & tear item:banghead:

You need to keep pushing. IF the clutch is above worn out limit why is it slipping? It must be the fault of the Clutch mechanism
It shouldnt so tell them the clutch isnt worn out, its a fault.

I would if I could, it's about a 3hr drive:bigcry: He sent me on the pics of it.Originally posted by AlexGTT View PostGo down there and measure it yourself.
He measured the clutch and it's 1.2mm thick which is above the worn out limit, but still won't cover it. Pissed off is an understatement!

Just off the phone with the warranty adviser and it looks like I will have to pay the full amount. The guy says the warranty doesn't cover clutch facings.

Take a look at thisOriginally posted by MKoop View PostI got him to measure it and he rang me back saying that it is 1.2mm but it won't be covered because it is worn out. It's the original clutch.
got the car in the dealer`s with clutch slur been told it needs a clutch can somebody tell me at what thickness will the plate start to slip as ive told them i want the old clutch when its done.
If I were youni wousl challenge the wear limit, check their measurements and then argue.
Ifmit gets escalated to BMW Uk the chances are they will offer good will, ie free part and half labour (you then get 2 year warranty)

I'd go and have a look myself. Arrive un-announced of course.
Had mine changed at near 50,000 miles under warranty. Hardly any wear at all. It's unusual for them to wear as much as they are saying.

I suppose 60k on one clutch for a manual is high but on SMG wear should be minimal unless slipping
Are you sure this is first clutch? Ask them to look at history

What mileage has the clutch done?Originally posted by MKoop View PostBooked my car into BMW this morning to remove my clutch due to clutch slip. I was hoping that it was above 1.1mm to have it replaced under warranty but just got a call saying that it is worn out:banghead: Not going to be cheap. Should I change the flywheel as well??
I personally would doubt it has worn and if I has it's probably because of the continuous slipping caused by the adhustor

Ahh right thanks mate, my warranty is due March with mileage probably on 49k by then, think now is as good a time as any to go monthlyOriginally posted by shimmy View PostWorded badly, just meant you won't be given warranty at the lower rate BUT also if they find out you renewed monthly at lower rate but later their records say you were above 60k miles, they can void your policy just when you need it
