I have fitted cup 2s. Not covered many miles but here are my first impressions over full fat cups.Originally posted by Mike R View PostHas anyone actually tried these yet, as all the people I have spoken to who have, say they are actually WORSE than CSL style Cups?
When staring out over the first mile there is more rear grip. No wheel spin on the usual gentle incline pulling out of a junction or untoward oversteer. Attended a track day, but was not a true test as always came in after one lap, stopped and then out again. Don't think tyres up to temp. Wear definitely better, but front end turn in did did not feel as good & tyres felt hard not biting into the track. To me they feel like a better Michelin super sport. I need more miles under my belt, but given the choice I would go for the full fat version on the few hundred miles I have driven.

I doubt they even got heat into them.Originally posted by Trawler View PostI have fitted cup 2s. Not covered many miles but here are my first impressions over full fat cups.

As a chassis engineer, and given discussions I've had with the Michelin tyre engineers and the data I've seen, I love the pure subjective completely non scientific speculating conclusions.
As yet nobody has done a proper back to back to test of laptime, wear etc. etc. on a CSL, of the right spec of tyre, and so on.
So until they have all you can do is use the data that does exist to try to suggest what the result might be.

I doubt that will ever happen. I'm not good enough to have consistent lap times let alone set times on different tyres. What I can judge is how the car feels/behaves. Has anyone done a comparison of times using run flats? Anyone that has driven on run flats can tell the difference without a stop watch. I'm no track day warrior but prefer the feel of the old cupsOriginally posted by Pooky View PostAs a chassis engineer, and given discussions I've had with the Michelin tyre engineers and the data I've seen, I love the pure subjective completely non scientific speculating conclusions.

At this point, that may not happen until next year, as I received notification from Sycamore BMW today that BMW Gmbh have rejected the latest batch of CSL cams, so I have no idea when they are comingOriginally posted by billyboysm3 View PostSomeone can borrow my square set up 265 35 18's cup 2's
or Mike could put them on his CSL at Snetterton, back to back

I see everyone's scared to pull the trigger on a set being afraid to have less performant tyres.
Alex
I can say with considerable confidence I am not scared in the slightest of exceeding the performance envelope of old school cups. If I can muster 70% I'd be overjoyed.
I am more likely to run a marathon in 2 hours!!
