We've got a black CSL at Chandlers waiting for an engine. Been there for over a year I believe, still no sign.....

At least it's going up in value whilst it's sat there!

surely there is a case for a warranty refudn for the period you had no CSL

That's certainly a conversation I would be having with BMW.

So two people that we know of waiting for a engine.

What also happens if the CSL has sat outside for 18 months, all window rubbers rotten and generally been left to rot, bushes knackered, probably SMG pump knackered.

assuming no warranty ... these cars needing new engines, what would the £ damage have been for a good independant to rebuild to better than new ?

Are we at the point now where the warranty is becoming irrelevant / useless ?

Pretty much ... although some of us were at that point 18 months ago :banghead: It was good while it lasted.

Depends on how much of the engine you are rebuilding. Parts availablity will still be an issue it would seem, so that obstacle would still be there. Seems mostly top end issues with the S54, and a few big end failures (probably caused by the top end issues).

Real shame these issues are cropping up on a truly iconic BMW.

are there any parts that specifically have to come from BMW ? Can aftermarket replace many items. I know with Porsche rebuilds ( aircooled) , most can be bought aftermarket , or parts from other cars modded to fit ( cyl heads etc )

Interested as these things start to become more of an issue as the cars get older. Surely a lot of the mech items on a CSL are shared with the standard M3 and those that arn't can be got aftermarket ? ( ref to the oily bits )

It's only people with warranty that are struggling. Those without always get them fixed ok

Bottom end let go circa 10K, reliably sourced.
